  2. The car may received body damage at one time…and repairs might have seen the plate removed…not replaced and the rivet holes fiberglassed over.

  4. Mike, Yes the tinted windows do help help the air-conditioning and reduce the heat load in the interior. It's also important to make sure unwanted heat isn't getting into the passenger compartment through leaks in the firewall, poor vent seals, etc. Here's a few pictures~ -Adam DeRosa

Any other thoughts on this question?
  8. I looked closely for the rivet holes .... nothing... very strange....
  9. I don’t think your Avanti ll has a VIN……because the seventeen digit VIN’s were not applied to American cars until 1981….. Your car has a SERIAL NUMBER (RQB2273), and it should be registered under that number…. unless your State insists on applying a new seventeen digit number to your Avanti… It’s odd that you cannot find the factory metal serial number plate on the driver’s side ‘A’ pillar…. For whatever reason, a previous owner must have removed it….(It was only riveted on)….perhaps during a repaint?
  10. It may seem strange I am looking for the VIN # when I am saying it is RQB2273,,,,, the Bill of Sale (no title provided at time of purchase) said it was RQB2273 and the last owner is deceased thus lost title. In SC you must have a Law Enforcement representative witness the VIN # to apply for a title when the title is lost.
  11. Hey Gunslinger, now that I have got the door open, 1. I have checked below the top hinge on the A pilar. 2. under the lock post on the aft door opening on the lower B pillar, 3. Driver's side of the dash where the windshield meets the body. 4 under the fam motor on the passenger's side on the frame for the tag......... nothing in any place

  16. In my previous query about radio upgrade, I asked about a part that sat on top of the old radio and was connected to an under dash harness (NOT to the radio amp output) I have not heard any explanation for the part. Its base is 4.25" square. There is a trim-able pot. as shown in the first picture and the connector to the under dash harness in the third. The only connection to the old radio itself was a ground wire connected to the rear support strap of the radio. Does anyone have any idea what the purpose is of this simple PCB. What might it control/support? (Aside: I have installed a "RetroSound" replacement and it fits like a glove in the old opening....I only have to memorise 18 pages of control options/settings)
  17. I, for two, am looking forward to it, too. --Dwight
  18. It's my experience, with both the new R3 (B86) I owned back in the late 1960s and the one I own now (B69). With B86 in the late 1960s I could drive through a small town (no other traffic, buildings on either side reflecting sound) and, with quiet mufflers, hear piston slap. It's well known that R3 engines burn oil. My B69 has gapless rings to hopefully reduce some of that oil consumption. With the current disassembly (at an engine builder) of B69 I am hoping to keep the original pistons (ForgedTrue, IIRC), but we'll see. If I have to buy new pistons we may be able to go with somewhat tighter piston-to-wall clearances. Might be able to get that oil consumption up to 500 miles/quart! --Dwight

  23. No issue with asking questions, many of the folks who come here know a LOT about the cars. But the manual will really help you as time goes on.

  25. It’s good to have you ‘on board’!!!!
  26. Check the body behind the drivers door…below the door lock. There should be a label.
