Thanks Guys. At least now I know what to look for. I have a feeling the clog is in the feed line and the tanks not an issue, Got some checking to do..

That’s odd… on my ‘83 (RQB3655), the fuel outlet is bottom dead center of the fuel tank… exactly like earlier Avantis .., There is also a factory drain plug in the fuel line located approximately under center of passenger door.

mfg, thanks. The brakes were fine. Even the old am radio came on with some distant country song. We live a ways from a town. The only thing that didn't work right was the clock.

On my 63, the fuel line comes out at the bottom of the tank thru the floor above the axle and goes to the fuel line that runs on the driver's side of the car up to the Studebaker fuel pump. On my 82 with the chevy engine, the fuel line comes from the top of the tank, drops down in front of the tank and through the floor right in front of the right rear tire. It then goes to the chevy pump on the passenger side of the car. Since that line ends up being lower than the fuel tank, it's gravity fed.

Good info Ron. I'm going to syphon out the tank as best possible and remove the tank. All your points are well accepted and I agree. It still doesn't answer the question of where is the fuel line attached to the tank. My understanding is there is an elbow fitting below the tank connected to s rubber hose. The rubber can be crimped off to stop fuel flow onto the ground.... but where do I access that fitting and hose? Under the car???

How do these look to everyone? The grayish element tells me that it's not running too rich or lean. But what about the rest of the plug. Would you have guessed that they were new 13 months ago? Can't have more than 2k-3k miles on the car in that time frame. Thanks

Our 2006 Avanti ( #10) on the drag strip at the 2010 Glendale Int'l meet. I only got a 14.7, but my kid got a 14.3 quarter mile time -
If it's the same as my 82 had, the fuel lines run from the engine fuel pump on the passenger side of the engine back to just in front of the right rear tire and then go up through the floor to the gas tank. You will need to remove the back seat, the back fiber glass panel behind the seat, to access the fuel tank and lines. Once there, you can disconnect the rubber hoses from the tank (first) and the chassis metal lines (second), since they will both need replacing. Next set up a container to catch the fuel. Attach the old supply hose back to the tank so the fuel will go to your container. (gravity fed). There wasn't a drain plug on my 82. Now is the time to replace all the fuel hoses including the filler neck hose, fuel pump hoses, etc. You'll need to go get some dum-dum when reinstalling the back panel to seal it off correctly. You don't want to use anything that will harden like silicon etc. since the panel may need to be removed in the future. The tank can be removed at this time also if needed.

I always use them with no problems…Thr correct install is shown in your second photo. I tighten the pal nuts by feel… Once they rub against rod nut I give them about another 1/3 turn.

Assembling my R2 engine, these retainers or locks came with some small parts along with the complete engine kit, some people say to use them on the nuts on the connecting rods other people say not to, as they may come loose and fall off in the engine. Wondering what the consensus is, to use them or not to use them, and if so, should they go on with the top facing up or opposite? Also just how tight to put them on, don't know if there's a torque rating for something this light duty or not, I have provided pictures of them going on either way as an example,,,

A little bit confused about the correct mark on the harmonic balancer for the ignition timing. I'm reassembling my R2 engine after the Machine Shop work, which was completely apart when I bought it so I don't know exactly how everything was to begin with. The harmonic balancer has two faint marks on it, one seems to be halfway across the width, the other seems to be more in the middle but not completely end to end of the width, they are 180° opposite each other. The one with the F3 next to it seems to be less defined or not as deep impression as the one opposite it but that's the one (f3) that seems to line up with the degree indicator provided I put everything together right as far as the cam/crank gears Etc., neither mark is really etched into the balancer as I would have expected it to be in order to see when timing the ignition. Hoping someone out there could give me a definite answer based on their experience I have included pictures of the balancer and the marks on it,,,

Hi folks. I started the questions on the Red Hawk posting. I thought this would be a more direct place to post the issues I'm having. So my 73 Avanti is having fuel feed issues. I've blown out the line and syphon pumped it out as well to the tank off of the fuel pump line. It'll run, but lethargic. Runs great off of a 5 gal gas can. I've seen virtually no crud showing up in an installed clear filter. So the main question for the day is where is the gas feed line attached to the tank and how do I access it? From under the car? Is there also a drain petcock or other drainage method? ..........
