  1. Past hour
  2. Raymond Loewy…he felt it helped the driver keep his attention oriented straight ahead.
  3. Assembling my R2 engine and following the torque sequence in the factory manual, I am wondering why those 5 bolts have double numbers, the 19 to 23, does that mean those bolts should be torque last for the 2nd time?,,,
  4. You forgot the ‘Skybolt Six’ …. A nice little engine!
  5. The Transistorized Ignition (Transigniter) was a factory installed option on all 1964 R1 and R2 Studebaker models. For the Avanti it was item 196 and the suggested retail price was $74.00. $57.50 Dealer cost. 3 R1s and 6 R2s were factory equipped.
  6. My guess would be Sears-Allstate tires.
  7. Today
  8. On the road now …However, will get you the info later tonight!

Wixom is reachable. Aprox 6hr drive from me. If this car I'm going to see does not pan out I will get in touch with them. Bought this 1 owner original paint car from a dealer In Grand Rapids MI and drove it back a couple years ago. The Avanti and it will be roommates in my garage.
  10. Information including on early 2001-2004 VR Avantis and 2005-2007 Avanti exists because I spent countless hours documenting photo copying all available information the cars. The information exists because I knew it would be of value at some point in time. I am still transitioning out of boxes as a result of my move. On the 2001-2004 cars I have the GM Certificate of Origin for the Pontiac Firebird, GM Window stickers including selling dealer Avanti Certificate of Origins build sheets etc. The information exists because I went above and beyond to find it copy it document it. Supposition on what exists is counter productive I will make the information available for purchase when I can get to it. If i keep reading this type of crap as I have stated factually it exists I have it and will share when time allows and I'm ready
  11. As usual, nothing to support your answer, not even the name of the Studebaker expert.
  12. Might be the unique Hood Adornment.
  13. All the above Avantis are real nice…. But something about Gunslinger’s photo REALLY stands out!
  14. Which of the following Studebaker Avanti designers came up with the ‘gunsight’ on the hood idea? 1) Ray Loewy….2) Tom Kellogg….3) John Ebstein…..or……4) Bob Andrews
  15. Thanks Dwight. I shoulda looked at my own engine number table! My memory said 1963 because I believe it actually started in August 1963 (for the 1964 model year).
  16. Brand of tires used during Studebaker’s Bonneville record breaking runs ?
  17. Another well known Stude expert gives credit to Bob Andrews for the Avanti wheelcover restyle…I’m going with Andrews on this one!
  18. Bob Doehler From Studebaker: The Postwar Years
  19. Have a group of Avanti parts for sale to include: 1. Transistorized ignition bank with coil. Recently working and removed from car. (Make Offer) 2. Standard 3 wire alternator, was rebuilt last year, works great, looks clean. Went to a single wire style alternator recently. (NO PIC but can forward). ($150) 3. Surge Tank - Purchased about 3 years ago, looks fantastic but had a slight leak in seam. Should be repaired, too nice a tank to go unused. (Make offer) offer)
  20. You're excused.
  21. The "date-of-assembly" engine serial numbers began with the 1964 model year (not 1963).

Nostalgic is in Wixom Michigan. Would that be drivable for you? He sometimes has cars for sale.
  23. No other thoughts here?
  24. This is from 1979 or 1980 at the meet held at the Playboy Resort in Great Gorge, NJ.
  25. On some of these cars you have to be careful when getting the correct alternator...sometimes the way the alternator case is clocked can put a connecting post or cable in a wrong position. Just because the car underneath might be a Caprice doesn't mean the Avanti hood line won't create a clearance issue. By all means get a different alternator if you want..just make sure of its mounting position before buying.
