IIRC, the red ones were for field/dealer replacement, not for original build.

EXACTLY Gary!....Production filters were painted black. (same AC3311 part number  though!:)....also, late Stude Avanti production may have used red....NOT MANY!)

Then what are the white with red texture grip end filters? It would be good to provide pictures, and documentation.

The red and white oil filters are also part number AC-3311 filters.......They were probably manufactured in Canada...Studebaker used Wix and Hasting "212" oil filters which they had painted over.

Most Avanti experts agree that the majority of Studebaker Avantis left the factory with BLACK painted AC-3311 oil filters!:)

I always take words like "most" and "experts" with a grain of salt.

Just located the AVANTI MAGAZINE article on these oil filters (AC-3311) by Al Basile.....Article has color examples of the black, all red, and red and white oil filters.

Apparently, the filters made for Studebaker in Canada had a different 'AC' number....AC-2559.

PS....Article in issue # 172.:)
