The question is what are the average sell prices in all 3 categories? Please if possible break to down into those 3 segments. Lets use a 1-10 category and yes a 7 as a focus point..Not a perfect method by any means but an educated guess is desired.

Hogtrough Posted November 16 Report Posted November 16 (edited) Hagerty prices look unrealistic at first, at least to me. However, a big factor is that nearly all sellers would pick a condition number one larger than their car would really deserve. A number two car is driven, but otherwise virtually flawless in every way, and a number one car never leaves the trailer. My Avanti recently experienced a condition downgrade when a body shop I left it with parked it outside with the windows down for 2 months, pretty much reversing everything I had done to the interior and ruining what was left of the paint by sanding it. When I'm done redoing it, with new paint and refurbished interior, the car will be a strong number three R1 with air conditioning, putting it at $27,600. Sounds about right. aardvark Posted November 17 Author Report Posted November 17 Haggerty and Bring a Trailer have pricing data. They basically follow the sales trends. I'll buy that for the R-1 and R-2.. but there are other models.

aardvark Posted November 18 Author Report Posted November 18 Yeah, it's due to rarity. And other issues enter into the mix. So then.. I have a '02' model.. 1 of 33 made. 1 of 15 in Convertible... I bought it at the right price (quite low) and in the 2 years I've watched it escalate to over 3X what I paid. They seem to be averaging $50k+. One recently sold for well over $100k (a fluke). So I'm in a quandary as to sell or not. Will it keep escalating in price? My suspicion is YES!..Mainly due to low miles and rarity.

aardvark Posted November 19 Author Report Posted November 19 I believe there was just recently an R2 that sold for $150 and the one newer model that was in storage overseas went very high as well. For the R2, look in the For Sale section here. It kinda shows there are possibilities to bring the cars into unexpected profits. So currently I have an '02'. I wouldn't let it go for less than $60k.Understand I don't want to sell right now but if offered that, it would be gone. Will it bring that price today? Maybe but not likely.. All said, they will be bringing that in the future if the current price rises I've been watching continue. The price of mine has near tripled since I bought it just 2 years ago.

I'm in conversation with a guy right now who is searching hard for a '02' or newer, He's hitting a wall and can't accurately find any Comps on the vehicles. Imagine no real Comps... when only about 35 a year were even produced.

Imagine no real Comps... when only about 35 a year were even produced. 2001 with 40K, two owners (father/son) sat outside for a couple of years with fiberglass repair needed, sun damage= top needed, seat covers, full paint. Sold for $15K 2 months ago California 2007 with 38K, one owner from Florida, excellent shape, sold for $38K 4 months ago 2007 with 99K, two owners (father/son) from Missouri, good shape for mileage, sold for 22K last month.

So I buy right and always shoot for a 50% profit, or I don't do the deal. Thus far I have 4 Sports Cars. ALL have a large built in Profit Margin. If they need sold I won't suffer a loss. So I'll be selling and searching for the next vehicle.. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE me some Horsepower and Shine, but I don't get attached to them over the Love.. It must profit or I'm out.

I'm also at the age where working on them much is out of the question, Something which I’ve seen as a ‘positive’ over the years is that Studebaker/Avanti prices have never taken off ‘through the roof’ as prices of other collector cars have. (Corvettes, some Mopars & Fords) This fact has allowed me to buy and sell Studes at prices which I (and others) can afford…..Some may see Studebaker/Avanti financial values lower than comparable vehicles as a negative, however, I’ve always felt their more attractive pricing was a good thing! aardvark Posted November 21 Author Report Posted November 21 I can see that from a Buyers point of view... and agree it's like a good thing. For me.. ALL Collectibles are still surging and it suits me that what I've bought (4 differing Sports cars) have escalated to 2X the value that I spent. So the Avanti's haven't surged to (say) the value of a Camaro or Stang, That's good since the entry level is still available. But to me, the Avanti's are on the rise.
