1963 UFO Posted October 6, 2022 Report Posted October 6, 2022 Taking my Avanti to have trans work. What type or name for the automatic transmission?
tanda62 Posted October 6, 2022 Report Posted October 6, 2022 The shop manual calls them a Power-Shift Automatic Transmission.
64studeavanti Posted October 6, 2022 Report Posted October 6, 2022 IIRC, it is a Borg Warner type 10. Very similar to Ford O Matic and auto trans used in AMC cars.

I believe the Stude Avanti "POWERSHIFT" unit is known in the trade as a Borg Warner "MODEL 8"..... The model 10 is the larger Lincoln unit. Edited October 7, 2022 by mfg Added Lincoln info
64studeavanti Posted October 7, 2022 Report Posted October 7, 2022 Could be. I was looking at a picture of the tag which says AS2-10. In any case, it is the "small ford" case.
1963 UFO Posted October 7, 2022 Author Report Posted October 7, 2022 Thanks guys. 10 or 8 ? Maybe it says on the case ?

Your trans is known as a Borg Warner model 8 to folks in the transmission rebuilding business. Trick is to find the right shop that has the expertise to work on it PS....some of your transmissions internal parts are special heavy duty..You need to be careful the shop you choose to do the rebuild doesn't use 'standard' Ford passenger car internal parts...They will fit, but won't perform the same. 1963 UFO Posted October 17, 2022 Author Report Posted October 17, 2022 Thanks so much. Big help. Now the search for someone who rebuilds in Florida. 👍👍
Dwight FitzSimons Posted October 17, 2022 Report Posted October 17, 2022 Perhaps someone at Stephen Allen's will know of a trans rebulder familiar with the B-W trans --Dwight
