Studebaker designer Bob Doehler once owned an 'Avanti Black' '64 square light Avanti with a very special interior.....Anyone know what was special about that interior?

Saddles

You got it!:).......Bob Doehler's '64 Avanti had a '65 prototype interior, in 'saddle TAN' imitation leather. (vinyl of some sort)

Must have looked real sharp against 'Avanti Black' exterior paint!

Here is an article by Richard Quinn about Bob Doehler.

Note that while Bob's Avanti is referred to as a 1964 the serial number R4561 indicates it was built in June 1963.

However, it appears from the photo that it does have square headlight enclosures and the right side hood support.

It had left over Fawn leather from the upholstery department.
