studegary Posted December 3, 2020 Report Posted December 3, 2020 Since Studebaker owned TIA at that time, I will guess a Boeing 247.

Desert Driver Posted December 4, 2020 Report Posted December 4, 2020 Dunno. In John Hull's "Avanti Operation Airlift", Sherwood Egbert had Board permission to purchase a Beech Queen Air at a cost not to exceed $185,000. The Queen Air from that era looks more like the photo above than the Howard 250.

8E45E Posted December 10, 2020 Report Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) I tend to believe it was a Beechcraft. There is a photo of Sherwood Egbert who often flew the plane himself near the cockpit. Does anyone recognize what make it is? Craig Edited December 29, 2020 by 8E45E
murph the surf Posted December 24, 2020 Author Report Posted December 24, 2020 (edited) In John Hull's book "Studebaker Avanti Operation Airlift", the plane pictured that accompanied the Fairchild C82 carrying the two Avantis, and that was used to shuttle Studebaker executives from city to city during " Operation Airlift" was indeed the Lodestar. The differing passenger capacity of the planes would have undoubtedly dictated usage. Edited December 24, 2020 by murph the surf
StudeNorm Posted December 25, 2020 Report Posted December 25, 2020 After doing a configuration comparison of the photo Murph posted I agree that the plane is a Queen Air. The windows in that photo are quite distinctive. Merry Christmas.
