  1. RQB3263...Please enlighten me on the Raccaro seats I hear so much about......the "Legacy Companion" seats i like will not work as they are too thick on the bottom and would raise driver up 3+inches toward the steering wheel...One option is rebuild what I have also....what are my other options ???RQB3263 BILL

  2. RQB3263.....Well I just had my Avanti up on the rack and...removing the sea attach hump from the floor boards DOES NOT appear reasonably do-able....the hump is not on top of the floor board ...it is the floor board and also there are heat shields and other stuff to deal with..the top and bottom sandwich idea is out .....so im back to using what I have and probably saved a lot of work....RQB3263 BILL

  3. RQB3263...Yes I was thinking of something like that ....Possibly 1/4 in. alum plate picking up all 4 existing bolt holes and drilled for the new seat....it could even be one inside and one underneath (sandwich).drilled and bonded thru the fiberglass floor...ill be ordering my new seats and matching material for the rest of the interior and begin stripping out the interior this week and see what ive got ..also the carpet kit ..Ill do research but I can always use input ....More ideas everyone .....thanks BILL

  4. RQB3263......Has anyone removed the floor board hump (right to left) at the forward seat attach ??? removing this would allow my new seats to bolt direct to the floor 1 1/2 inch lower and closer to the original seat heigth....????? advise me please....BILL RQB3263 PH. 386-466-6434..

  5. RQB3263...Please look at the pic in the registry page ....can anyone tell me what the paint color is ...the tag is missing from the glove box....and the car has been re-painted...??...I call it "Ice blue"....but...and the carpet kit is $800+ not include the trunk......custom mats are another $175 approx.....from Auto Mat Industries 516-938-7373.......RQB3263....BILL

  6. yup....First thing may be to replace the gauge and sending unit (I use Autometer) ..also before I forget it ....While you got it up on the rack...rap on the mufflers....if they rattle replace them, something broke loose inside and may be restricting ex flow ...I did these also..new engines will run a little hotter for a thousand miles or so then normal...after break-in switch to Rotella T 15w40 oil forever....RQB3263

  7. Happy 4 th of july ....RQB3263 Bill Gregg.......While iI never had a true "overheating" problem on my 81 /305 ...I still gor nervous if it allroached 200 degrees...so I did a bunch of things and it now rarely gets to 180 and never over 190 stuck in a 20 mile traffic jam in georgia last week ...I have pics that i can email you ...my cell number is 386-466-6434 in florida...Here is the list....depolute the engine completely, remove and block EGR valve, remove thermostatic valve from right exhaust manifold.(may req minor welding), , check ign. timing, install dual 10" fans with full alum shroud and 180 on 165 off thermo switch from thermo houseing, install 160 degree thermostat w/ 6 3/16 inch holes drilled in flange, remove trans cooler from radiator and relocate alum. tubular double pass cooler under radiator, install air intake spoiler/scoop (pics avail). space hood latches up 1/2 inch for summer operation,,install 3000cfm fan on A/C condenser wired thru relay from A/C compressor power wire, ...I did all these things and it works ...call me for pics ....BILL RQB3263

  8. RQB3263 ...81 AVANTI ii ...(chevy 305 eng)....I just finished installing a 700 in 3263 and removing a 350th...I had to open the hole in the frame x member (cut out the web between the two holes) where the exhaust pipe goes thru to allow the pipe to be moved to the right about 1 1/2 to 2 inch to clear the trans pan at the aft right corner...a new drive shaft of course...a new trans mount crossmember fabed from 1/4 inch plate....and minor shifter linkage changes..and thats it ...other than a very hard days work.....works great ....700 is the way to go ....RQB3263

  9. RQB3263...1981 Avanti II...I installed 2007-2009 Mustang aluminum wheels 16x7 inch ...They look great but required 1 1/4 inch spacer/adapter to Ford 4.5 inch bolt spacing.. in front and ! inch in rear...they are relative cheap and plentiful at salvage yard or ebay...about 80$ each....rqb3263 BILL

  10. RQB3263...BILL....Hog troughs smoog troughs.....If I had the body up or off of a hog trough Avanti I would eliminate them completely...This could probably be done for under $500 in materials and labor (one weekend of fabrication).....by remove the HT from the body and fab 2"x3" x1/8"wall rec. steel tube to be welded directly to the Stud frame....kinda like "outriggers".....there will be a couple of intermediate supports...design them to be about 4" inside ans parallel to the rocker panels with bolt tabs welded to them...clamp them up so they are the same height as the frame rail and get a pro to weld them...with the body off it would be easy...with the body raised up 5 or 6 inch a little more of a problem....lotsa measurements and sketches will need to be made before the body comes off...if you have another car to refer too thats another story.....The 4" space between the outside of the new support rail and the rocker panel could be used for an exhaust pipe....uuuuumm...aaaaahh whats another weekend work....now lets think about this....RQB3263 BILL

  11. RQB3263...Just finished a 3300 mile Avanti road trip...With all the work described above and more...(eng., trans., a/c., cooling etc) it preformed perfectly !!! I have switched to Rotella T 15w40 oil to get the zink additive not in auto oil....and had a very good stay with the Myer's Studebaker folks in Ohio...where I got the p/s valve and cylinder rebuilt and new rear springs, front shocks, alignment, head light covers, rear brake flex hose, front shocks, rear sway bar mounts, and more....great folks....there is no substitute for taking it to the crew that really knows there stuff...and I didnt have to pay freight or get dirty even once...After the alignment the steering wheel was not "clocked" correctly...I disassemble it and re-drilled the hole 7/16 inch for the horn contractor to come thru and that fixed that.. Its getting close to time for interior and paint (maybe just a touch-up)....RQB3263 BILL

  12. rqb3263 HAS ELECTRIC COOLING FANS ....2 @ at 12 " dia each fully aluminum shrouded.....and a third on the front 3000 cfm on the ac condenser (very necessary) wired thru a relay from the a/c compressor power wire.....the orig. fan and shroud are removed....160 degree thermostat with holes drilled in it ...trand cooler removed from radiator and installed in free air under radiator behind spoiler....(Pics avail) ...all pollution control removed...180 on ..165 off thermostat fan control on thermostat housing...Stewart high flow water pump...on my recent 3300 mile road trip never saw higher than 190 stuck in traffic...I have also switched permanently to Shell Rotella T 15w40 oil....it has the necessary zinc additive removed from auto oil.....BILL

  13. rqb 3263 The 07-09 Mustang wheels are plentiful and relative cheap ...about $80 each plus adapter/spacers needed for clearance..They are 16"....I originaly said 17 but thats not correct...they are 16" and thats why the fit and look so good...I gave my steel take offs away....BILL
