    I had a heck of a time getting the driver side regulator with glass out, lots of little movements to get enough clearance to get it all out. To reinstall i cut a small corner off one of the brackets to make it easier to fit back in that space. I had to remove the glass as they didn't want the glass with the regulator. Right now I could use a bit more adjustment in getting the glass to seal 100% to the door glass but I can manually move the 1/4 glass by hand and it works well. I would use them again as they were fast to fix and return.

  2. When I owned a paint/rust removal company in the Detroit area we used low pressure blasting with plastic, glass bead and walnut shells. Depending on what it was we were trying to remove. Plastic or walnuts were for paint, bondo, undercoating, caulking and other non rusty things. Either the plastic or walnut would remove undercoating very easy. Low pressure in the 15 to 25psi range and using a 1/2 nozzel to get the jkob done. We did many older Corvettes and lots of steel bodied cars this way. Problem was the materials we shot for that job got tossed after the car was done as the oily undercoat mess ruined the materials. We shot low pressure but lots of volumn, we had a 800 cfm conmpressor to get the job done. Don't know how the Avanti body underside would take to that blasting, but Corvettes did great.

  3. I do like the car, as I said it is a nice cruiser and is Quiet & Smooth driving, my wife likes that fact. I'm pretty sure it would not spin the tires on gravel and for sure you need to plan any accleration into traffic. It is a dog.,but looks good. I've kicked around selling it and buying something else already repowered and made quicker. Will attempt this week to investigate with the local hot rod shops to the cost and effort needed to swap in more power.  As it is it runs as well as it can and has not given me a lick of problems power train wise. Have upgraded the radiator and now it runs cooler..  

  4. Have a 48,000 mile 1991 Avanti Conv that is in really nice looking shape. Has a few minor issues like the a/c doesn't work, but overall is really nice. It has the 305 slug of a motor,  that runs perfectly just not really powerful and lacks the get up and go. I've toyed with the idea of pulling that 305 and dropping in a 350/or 383 chevy with some real power, changing the rear axle ratio and making it a fun hot rod. Need some opinions on if this will kill any resale value or ??  make it more desireable. As it is it gets a lot of thumbs up and is fun to drive, as it is quiet and comfortable and no rattles or odd noises.

    I was told 17 total for 1991, but only 7 convertibles and the others were 4 doors. He said mine/his was the last one built as a conv off the line. I have not been able to confirm any of that information. Makes for a good story to say the last of these styles was this as the last conv. But until I can find the real info and know it is the truth, I don't repeat it. I do say it was in the last small run of converibles for 1991.

  6. I own that one listed above out of California. The fellow I bought it from was 84 and the second owner and he had it about 24 years. I bought it and use it as much as possible here in Arizona. I was under the impression that it was not fiberglass but kevlar impregnated fiberglass. It is heavy and drives very well. Only changed the tires and wheels and some minor repairs for the 2.5 years I've had it. Always get thumbs up from other drivers when we have it out.

  7. I purchased my used Model X in Raligh, NC and drove it to Prescott, Az, about 2300 miles. I think I stopped either 12 or 13 times to charge and spent 3 nights in motels. The farthest I went, I have 325 range, but that is from 100% full to zero charge and nobody should or would run that way, was 210 miles. The system would show me where to stop and for how long to get to the next charger system. Most stops were for 15 to 20 minutes, some 35-45 minutes and two for sure were 50 minutes. All depending on the range I needed, based on my speed or always running the speed limit and a touch over. In some areas the mountains played a big part in using more energy for a shorter drive range. What I have found interesting is in almost every stop, folks would get out and talk about the or their cars to other folks charging up. When was the last time you got gas and walked over to talk to the folks getting gas in a pump near you?  Uness they are in a clooector car or hot rod, you just pump your gas and leave. I LOVE  driving the Avanti with the top down around town, but for excitment, the X wins hands down.

    Look on the route you would drive from home to Maine and see if the super chargers Tesla has are on that route. Looks like about 6 chargers I see on the map but your route may not??
