Spring 2020 Virtual Car Show Winners
Stacey replied to ronmanfredi's topic in Virtual Car Show Spring 2026
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, Up against some really awesome cars and to win 3 third. You have made our day!! -
I owned a plastic media blasting company and stripped many (about 9) Corvettes that had been chemicaly stripped and then painted. Over the years I probably stripped 30 vettes, but only some were in for paint failures of some reason. Areas of the raw fiberglass absorbed some amount of the chemical and laid dormant for some time. Then when the car was heated as in sitting out in the sun at a car show bubbles would appear in and under the paint. They looked very much like what these photos are showing. I think somewhere in this cars past a chemical was used and got into the fiberglass. A PPG paint rep once told me that if a chemical process was going to be used on a fiberglas car, once the car was bare, it should be put into the paint booth and baked at the highest temp possible to off gas and bake the fiberglass dry before any sanding or priming should begin.

>>We used sandpaper only, no chemicals. We used cleaner to remove dust and possible oil residue. I think the cleaner was thinner. We used a primer, 2k epoxy filler, 2 layers of 1k base coat and a top coat.<< Have you used a exacto knife to peel up the bubble and see if it is lifting from the primer or the glass body shell?

In 1963 lets say if they were #1. 75% better that would be a huge improvement. So #1 is my guess.

Agree, a 305 is a boat anchor as far as the power goes.

Went and hunted that car photo and I think #2, side view has some Avanti in it.
-
I think #2 Dazzler would be the paints in vibrant colors

Well without the air cleaner I'm going with #2. $250.00

Are there any 90 4-door owners on here?
Stacey replied to Richard's topic in 1990 Avanti 4-Door Luxury Touring Sedan
WOW, never seen one looking anywhere near as nice as yours, excellent upgrades. What year motor did you use to replace the 305? -
If I let my top just close and release the button as the top almost hits the top of the windshield, it is a bugger to get it to latch. If I hold the button the pump puts out more pressure and lets the top then kind of stretch to allow the pins to be within maybe 1/4 inch away from the place they need to go. Then I can just move the latches and lock it in. Took a while to get the "hang" of making it easy to put the top up.

Since 1962 would have been them showing off what they were about to build I think 3.

Had a 1967 Impala SS that developed a vibration, my first car. Thought tires/wheel balance, did not fix it. My dad said he thought a U-joint was binding, removed the drive shaft and sure enough the rear joint was dry and locking up, was not loose, but tight. Back then we were able to buy a new joint for about $5.00 and he and I replaced it, vibration was fixed. Might be worth looking at the u-joints.

I have owned many boats, rv's and vehicles, never bought any of them to 100% make money. I bought to enjoy that said item. I wanted the enjoyment that item would give me and my wife. Been blessed that our hard work and saving has allowed us the life style we have. Yes, a few things i bought did sell for a tad more than purchase, but that was not why we bought. We got the use, that was what we wanted, could afford and had the time to use. So when I decide to sell this Avanti conv, I will sell for whatever I can get at that time. Will I loose money, probably, but have enjoyed the car when we were out and getting thumbs up from others. Everyone has different wants/needs and desires, much is what they can afford. I figured we can't take it with us so might as well have fun while we are here to enjoy. t

I didn’t buy my car with investment in mind, I just wanted one, and when it comes times to sell I’ll get what I can. Mike Exactly, these cars to me was not an investment vehicle, but something my wife and I wanted. When the time comes to sell it off, we will end up with whatever the buyer is willing to spend. I can say well it is worth SO MUCH, but unless the buyer comes up with that amount , it isn't worth that. It will be worth what the buyer and I agree to.

Can not even count the amount of IS THAT A KIT CAR? What is it???questions over the years. The older folks, seem to know but anyone younger have no clue.
