Yes, that knob is identical to the one on my '78.  There is a mate to it that is marked "AIR" that controls the fan speed.

Thanks Jim! That gave me a starting point to look at pictures online. Appears that this knob was used from 1972 until at least 1985, maybe 1986 but I couldn't find any 1986 interior pics. In 1987 they went to a completely different heat/ac control panel. Now at least I know what years to advertise it as fitting. Thanks again!

  2. I have a NOS temperature knob that I "think" is from an Avanti II....... maybe for the air conditioning? The p/n on the bag is 1701162. This came as part of a bunch of Studebaker parts, but I'm not knowledgeable at all on the post-Studebaker Avantis. Can anyone help with an application for this p/n? A picture is attached. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

***SOLD*** Studebaker Avanti paint can -- Avanti Dark Maroon Metallic, nice can, has a small dent but doesn't detract from its presentation. Can is full and still liquid. $35

Studebaker Trim Kare -- full can, excellent label and plating still in very good condition. These are hard to find in this condition since the labels were quite fragile and deteriorated if not stored carefully. $65

Studebaker Tar and Road Oil Remover can -- nice graphics, slightly yellowed, can is empty. $12

If I remember correctly it was Milt Antonik.

    --Dwight

Milt Antonick was the guest speaker at one of our NC Chapter TriState Meets (probably 20-25 years ago) and presented a very interesting and informative talk about his time at Studebaker. Milt later worked for Chrysler Corp on thier Design staff.

By the way, the correct spelling is "Antonick".

  7. Build sheet indicated it was for Senator Vance Hartke.

From Wikipedia:  "Rupert Vance Hartke (May 31, 1919 – July 27, 2003) was an American politician who served as a Democratic United States Senator from Indiana from 1959 until 1977. Hartke won election to the Senate after serving as the mayor of Evansville, Indiana. In the Senate, he supported the Great Society and became a prominent opponent of the Vietnam War. Hartke ran for president in the 1972 Democratic primaries but withdrew after the first set of primaries. He left the Senate after being defeated in his 1976 re-election campaign by Richard Lugar."

Could be wrong, but I've never heard that R3-R4 lifters were lightened by the Granatellis....So I'll say #1,  0 ozs.

Sorry Ed, that's not the answer. According to Paxton Service Bulletins posted on Bob Johnstone's site www.studebaker-info.org, the R3/R4 lifters "........are .25 oz. lighter than the stock lifter."
