  1. Jay Leno bought a ‘56 Packard Caribbean convertible last year just like the one I owned several years ago… One of only fifteen black and white examples… !

    Avanti Swap!

Sorry, answer is TRUE, although there would be a considerable drop in compression ratio.

    Avanti/Cadillac!

No old school hot rodders out there?

    Avanti Swap!

Pistons of the same diameter for a ‘64 Thunderbolt 289 will interchange with Avanti ‘R’ pistons as long as they are swapped as a complete set…..True?

    Stude Pans!

Studebaker V8 engine oil pans were the same from ‘55 thru ‘64, excepting for the special Avanti ‘R type’ engine oil pan……True?

    Avanti/Cadillac!

Time for a hint?…OK!….. Internal engine part!!!!!

    Avanti/Cadillac!

Yes Murph, I understand the early Caddy manifold is a close, but not a direct swap, requiring a bit of intake port ‘massaging’, and slotting of the manifold bolt holes. Still, it amazes me how similar the two engines were externally…. and pretty easy to understand how many rodders (back then) created Studillacs!!

    Avanti/Cadillac!

No, not the intake …. Actually, it was the Studebaker boys who pirated early Cadillac V8 manifolds, especially the dual quad and triple types.

    Avanti/Cadillac!

Good guess, but not ‘it’ !!
  10. On an automatic to stick shift conversion, it seems like many go to a hydraulic clutch release, either with a slave cylinder operating the clutch fork, or a hydraulic throw out bearing….. Original Stude Avanti & early Avanti ll mechanical clutch linkage, in stock form, should be avoided if at all possible… especially when installing a heavy duty pressure plate.
  11. What item found on Studebaker/Avanti V8 engines was commonly pirated by owners of hot rodded early Cadillac V8’s? P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

    Avanti Glass!

WHOOPS! (hopefully) she doesn’t read this forum!!!!!
  13. I was a bit surprised the statement was made by Egbert…. Although I considered he may have made it, I dismissed that thought, as Egbert has always been painted ‘all business’ and ‘non-emotional’…… Of course, I did not know the man, so all that is just speculation on my part!
  14. I don’t know the answer here… but I’m quite interested in finding out!
  15. You’re a ‘gent’ Murph!
  16. Ah-ha…Right car…. Wrong museum!!!!!!!!
  17. I’m guessing that custom moving dolly operated something like the rotisseries auto restorers use today to access all areas of a cars body… It must have securely fastened to that Avantis frame…. however…. NOT WITH MY AVANTI YOU DON’T!!!!
  18. Yes, that story is true…. It was for a Raymond Loewy tribute… A custom moving dolly was crafted by a local moving company which somehow put that Avanti ll on its side….apparently without damaging it… UNREAL!!!

    Avanti Glass!

That’s a good question!!….I’ll grab a used assy, and give it a weigh soon.
  20. You certainly have the ‘touch’ !!!

    Avanti R5643!

Splitting hairs here, but the answer is actually FALSE…. Reportedly this Avanti has just under 6,500 miles on its odometer!
  23. We owned an ‘08 Toyota Corolla like that…. With the A/C running,it was frequently necessary to shift the automatic trans down a gear to stop the engine from laboring on hills.
  24. The last production Studebaker Avanti, serial R5643, has just under 5,000 miles on its odometer…..True?
  25. A Studebaker Avanti’s driver or passenger door window glass weighs approx….?….. lbs. 1) ten…..2) fifteen…..3) twenty…..or…4) twenty five
