I have Eric Johnson’s 2003 Avanti. Does anyone know how many 2003s were produced? I want to have a show board prepared for car shows and it would be neat to be able to say what number this car is in the scheme of things (like one of 30).

I spoke today with Stan (an AOAI member) and his daughter Ann about his book. It is available and ready to ship. The website is being rebuilt on a different platform with a different host which is why the current URL is down. In the past 2 years, Stan's wife passed and then he went through several surgeries which took him away from the business for quite a while. His email address also had and is having problems, so he hasn't been receiving emails (we tested it today). Today he is healthy for his age and doing well. To order the book, send a check of $65 to: Stan Gundry, 4142 Burton St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. Feel Free to send me a PM if you have any trouble receiving the book and I'll contact them.

Supposedly, Avanti R3 engines, which were built at Paxton Products in California, were subject to a series of tests lasting …..?….. hour(s) before being shipped to South Bend. 1) One…..2) Two…..3) Three ….or…..4) Four

Sherwood Egbert’s salary at Studebaker was about ….?…. the amount of the man he replaced, Harold Churchill. 1) Half…..2) Same….3) Double….or…..4) Triple

Anyone thinking of separating their Paxton supercharger ‘halves’ for a thorough clean out of the fluid reservoir may want to purchase (ahead of time) the two o-rings that seal the halves. Those two large o-rings are fairly easy to nick or break, and I doubt if replacements could be found locally. Paradise Wheels in California stocks them… Ed

Thanks AG. I have a diagram for an 82, probably the same? Looks like it shares a fuse with the power window relays. I’ll have to try and trace it out. Just strange it all of a sudden came on. Mike

1982 Chevy shop manual is great idea. I live in a condo and another tenant has a beautiful restored 1956 Chevy. He went as far as to have a shop replace the carb with fuel injection. I might do that. Working on this Avanti is nigh impossible not having my shop tools handy. I am considering selling it on consignment where I bought it.

If the bubbles return…you might try pricking the bubble with a fine point. It could allow the moisture or whatever it is to evaporate and you can lay the bubble down.

To me, that indicates it was moisture…. Unfortunately, if the moisture couldn’t escape, it probably retreated back into the fiberglass, and chances are will return.

I think I read he was up there in age when he retired, so I think 87

While I was on a holiday, the weather was very hot. To my great surprise: The blisters are completely gone, not trace left! Question is now; will they be back when it starts raining again?

From my notes, the fuse box on an 83 shows the fuse for the Brake Emergency Circuit is a 10Amp. If this is the one controlling the power to that light, it's the fifth row up from the flasher end and center position. If you can see what the wire colors are behind that point, one of them goes to the device that triggers the light and then on to the light....

Only if it’s exactly the correct length… which it probably isn’t! Universal cores that can be cut to size should probably still be available though.
-
Will a 63-64 speedeometer cable core fit the 72 using the GM TH400 transmission?

Our hero, Raymond Loewy, went into retirement at the age of …..?….. 1) 69……2) 76……3) 80….or……4) 87

That was a prudent move!… Although an Avanti’s power window motor is small, the torque it develops (through gear ratio advantage) is considerable…. Much more torque than a person would normally apply to a manual window crank!

Yes Dwight… 3 spd o/d with power steering…. I’ve never driven a 56J without power steering…. Has to be difficult.

PS… I guess they wanted to make sure their engines burnt oil!!!!!
