When I turn on either the wipers or heater (or both) the fuse will blow. I replaced the fuse with a 30 amp breaker and that will trip after a minute or two. The guages and shifter light are on the same circuit. Is it because the motors are old and pulling too many amps? Any suggestions keep them safely running?

Too bad there’s no mention of the vehicles history in the description. What sort of commission or fees do they charge to consign?

Thanks for the information.

It's the Dolenz car that I recently restored. I consigned it to Gateway last week.
-
It's not a lense, it's the entire light assembly. Both of mine were broken and I was unable to locate where it came from since there weren't any markings on the light. I found an import light assembly off ebay which fit the car using the factory mounts. www.ebay.com/itm/234000006178

Shocks: After A LOT of reserch I've decided on KYB front shocks for my 1980 Avanti for the part numbers that fit a 1980 Chevrolet Corvette. I'm going to double-check the dimensions and mounting style, but I'm told that in most cases, these will fit and perform well. If you want absolute certainty, consult Avanti or Studebaker specialty suppliers (as usual), but many Avanti owners use Corvette shocks with great results. They're supposed to be better at handling the extra weight of the Chevy 350 engine. I haven't tried them yet but will in the next two weeks and get back to y'all. Any thoughts on this? Also, I need a pair of sway bar end links but can't seem to find anyone who knows what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology.

Doesn't look like it. The link to Craigslist is no good.

Here are two pix from slightly different angles. I can take pix of the other side if it matters. The pulley is a single belt. --Dwight

One thought: A while ago someone reproduced the disc that was glued to the center of the wheel cylinders on early '63s. That might look cool when viewed through your Halibrands. I believe the fellow advertised them in the AOAI magazine. --Dwight

Curious .. do You shoot for authenticity or modification?
64Avanti replied to aardvark's topic in Avanti Pub
As to the question that was asked about stock or modified although I very much appreciate a well restored vehicle to original condition I have a habit of modifying cars. I can't help myself. In the end I would say it is your car do what you want. -

With an LS3 engine in the Avanti you are looking at being in an altered class (I am out of California at the moment so can't be specific.) and the record for that is way over 200 mph. The current record for a supercharged Avanti in the classic supercharged class is about 199 and is held by Dave Bloomberg. This class requires using the original engine which can be modified but you can't do an engine swap. By the way it takes about 600 hp to go 200 mph in an Avanti. -

What 170 mph land speed record? There isn't a current 170 mph record that would apply to an Avanti with an LS3. - Yesterday

I know Dan does. But I would like actual installation photos.

Contact Dan Booth at Nostalgic. The man believes in service after the sale.

Look for numbers and letters on the lens…there may be a DOT number. Do a web search on that number and the application may come up. Your photo didn’t come through I can’t tell whether there’s any numbers on the lens. If there’s no numbers on the lens there may be one on the back of the assembly.

hey I learned something new... my stock R2 Hawk might get a set of those Cobalt calipers! I want it to look stock when viewed thru the Halibrands.

my 79 came with a Edelbrock MT-1 Torker single plane manifold and older Carter AFB, no smog stuff. Distributor mechanical advance was sticky, fixing that helped a lot, the SBC likes lots of timing, full advance at RPM with vacuum disconnected should be 34-36 degrees. Biggest help with driveability was a dual plane Performer EPS manifold, especially with my long gears (3.08) you want good off-idle power and torque. I also eventually replaced the AFB with a 4150 series Holley but it wasn't to increase power. Now it's on a par with my R2 Hawk with 3.31s.

I recently had a 2004R installed in my '72 Avanti, by a reputable mechanic in my area. I supplied the kit from Nostalgic with their linkage rods. For some reason, he could not get the linkage right to pull the shifter into first or second gear. Will someone please provide pics that show the correct installation.

Go for it Dwight. We are all counting on you!!! lol I'm getting ready to paint mine so I'm actually interested in knowing.
-
I don't know the answer to that question, but I now have a whole new mission in life: determining the color of those screws!
-
Dwight, are we certain that the superchargers from the factory had unpainted screws? I would think that the supercharger was painted as an assembly such the the body including screws were painted orange, but not sure on this. Is there any documentation to state one way or the other?
