The dowel pins to locate the cylinder heads are missing from my R2 engine block, seems they may have been removed when the block was machined and never replaced, so my question is how important are they and can I just put the cylinder heads on without them?

Does anyone have a working 63 Avanti Horn for sale?

Last year I sold a 64 Vette on Bat. Had a professional photographer take lots of professional shots. Was aware of all fees up front and and a very smooth transaction. Would do it again.

I'm sorry, Dwight, but I think your ancestors drank too much on the boat from Europe to the promised land, causing them to forget how to use commas and periods. Just so you know: Since no one responded, out of desperation I bought a Studebaker Avanti solution. The advantage is that this solution holds the carpet better. I'm happy with it.

I’d make sure that the cylinder head casting numbers, which are located on top of the center exhaust port, are both the same….. Over the years I’ve seen a few Studebaker’s where a cylinder head has been swapped indiscriminately with another to replace a damaged original head…..which could result in a slight compression ratio difference…..If the casting numbers are the same, you’re good to go!

I've never had a problem selling cars with Marketplace. The trick is, I price them to sell using Hagerty and Old Cars Magazine price guides as a guideline. I realistically decide whether the car is a #2 or #3 and go from there. Every Studebaker I've fixed up and sold has taken maybe 6 weeks max. (I don't buy them to flip, but inevitably get bored with them once done and sell them after 2-3 years of ownership). Always looking for interesting trades, just in case you are inclined in that direction. Here's what I have.

My reading of the original post, is that Kodjo is needing the stainless trim that goes with the rubber sill. Kodjo, that piece is just a "L" shaped piece of stainless. Easy to make if you have access to a metal brake. I happen to have that piece off of my car, so I've measured it and here are the numbers. 42 " long 6 Holes.....My guess is you already know that, as there should be 6 holes in the body 24 Gauge (.0239 thick) The long leg is 15mm......The short leg is 6-7mm Hope this helps John

Long bracket is support for air filter assy on R2 supercharged Avanti engines only.

These (4 of them) attach to head bolts, and the stainless steel ignition shields mount to them. If you have the SS shields you can bolt these brackets to them, then hold the SS shield next to the cylinder head to determine location of the brackets. Or, just do some measurements. Page 56 in the Avanti Parts Catalog shows them, as RegnalBob has posted above. The Avanti Parts Catalog, as well as the Avanti Shop Manual are essential resources for working on an Avanti. They are excellent manuals. --Dwight

The long one is the air cleaner support. The others are for the ignition shielding.

Pretty sure these brackets are attached to the cylinder head bolts at some location on the heads (R2 engine), does anyone have a diagram or can tell me where they should be and/or what attached to them ?

I used a school bus vinyl center floor runner for mine and it looks original and very good. Available at all the school bus parts distributers in Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa.

This is a very interesting label.. I’ve never seen it before. It makes me wonder if, back in the day, reading it scared any perspective Avanti ll customers away???
