  2. If it looks like this it may be a R3 air cleaner that pulled cool air through the wheel well
  3. Today
  4. I know there are only a few people that opted for the Electronic version of the Avanti magazine. To the best of my recollection, it is less than 20 people. I did not receive a link to the newest Avanti magazine Fall/winter 2025 via Joomag (the company responsible for the electronic version). The last email I received was 8/21/2025. I am not sure who I should contact with my concerns. On a similar note, on occasion, a paper ballot is sent out with the hard copy of the Avanti magazine. There is no way for those of us who selected the electronic copy to vote. I have emailed all the board members concerning the ballot issues and have not received a response from any.
  5. Most other sealants will prevent you from removing the panel again down the road. You need 3M 08578 and can get it from Amazon or most auto parts stores can order it.
  6. A picture would help. But, it's not stock in any event. --Dwight
  7. Not sure what you have, but below are '63 & '64 R2 air cleaners. These were the only air cleaners used on '63 & '64 R2 Avantis. --Dwight
  8. Yesterday
  9. Have you traced the wires? Does the light illuminate? Could be part of an alarm system.
  10. Somebody may have changed it. The design isn’t brilliant because it’s sucking in hot air from deep within the engine compartment. If the whole affair was flipped to put the intake in front, it would be sucking in cooler air.
  11. My '63 R2 has an air cleaner that only has an opening on the bottom. All the other ones that I have seen have a fully enclosed cylinder with the air cleaner partially sticking out from the rear. Why is mine different?
  12. My '63 Avanti R2 has a small red light on the upper part of the console (below the dash). I've never seen one on a '63 R2. Does anyone know its purpose?

  14. I’ve removed regular exhaust manifolds from above without too much trouble… Easier on right side… I’d guess the headers would be about the same amount of work… Loosening the exhaust pipe-to-manifold nuts can be a challenge though!
  15. AG-R3

    63 R1

Chuck Collins, I believe, was an AOAI member who was instrumental in starting the Washington DC chapter, back in the early 70's.
  16. Any tips/tricks to remove R3 headers with engine in car. These are on a 63 R2 Manual says it can be done from above but doesn’t give much detail (remove ignition shielding, remove manifold bolts, lift manifold out). Does look like there is much room to access bolts. Any tips/tricks?
  17. thanks
  18. Last week
  19. 63R-3168 is listed by Hagerty in a no reserve auction in Phoenix, AZ. It’s a white/black R1 with some interesting history.
  20. It's not worth me going thru all of that , Dwight. but thanks for responding.
  21. And they work like a champ. Start the car and watch the corners of the hood move down...
  22. I just tried it again & it works for me. I assume the reason the link doesn't work for you is that I go through the login process (and you, of course, can't go through my login process). So, I don't know how to post a link that will work for others. Maybe log onto Facebook and search Mass. & '63 Avanti. --Dwight
  23. You sure do some interesting improvements to that car. Like what you have done.
  24. You might consider this sealant https://www.permatex.com/products/gasketing/gasket-coatings-sealants/gasket-sealants/permatex-permashield-fuel-resistant-gasket-dressing-flange-sealant-2-oz/ The website has a store locator included so you can avoid USPS delays.
  25. I've seen that more than once...having to undo what past owners have done before doing it correctly.
  26. Problem solved! I discovered that the connections at the fuse panel were reversed at the wiper circuit breaker. The ignition hot wire that should go to the common input of the fuse panel was on the oposite side of the wiper circuit breaker. Thus everything on the ignition circuit was going through the curcuit breaker before the common of the fuse panel. Everything worked until the additional load of turning on the heater motor and/or wipers. That additonal load would trip the breaker. All I had to do was reverse the connections and all is well. I guess I'm forever cursed with correcting previous owners mistakes!
  27. Thanks for the Pix's. Your link doesn't go direct to the vehicle and I see no means to do so.
  28. Our auto body supply stores are all gone... but ordering from one of the on-line suppliers is a good idea.
