    Odd Avanti!

    Any idea on how many came from the factory with a manual 3 speed? Don’t get the logic. Seems like the correct number should be zero! Mike
  10. Gorgeous car…. only visual issue I have with these Avanti converts (and the coupes also) is that the ‘fit’ of the rear wheels in the quarter panel openings never looks quite right. (to me anyway)
  11. Until 1963, Studebaker engines were sequentially numbered within each series. Beginning with the 1963 model year, they were dated as of the date of assembly, so more than one engine could have the same engine number. The V8 engine table lists the FIRST/STARTING engine number for each year and model series. There is no way the table can list all possible engine numbers. Studebaker-V-8-Engine-Identification.pdf
  12. Good plan. Don't be in a hurry though -- only a few nice Avanti IIs are available at any given time. One will turn up that'll be perfect if you give it a bit of time.

  17. When you remove the front seats from your Avanti, turn them upside down and look at the bottom side of the fiberglass seat bottom. The Production Order Line Number is handwritten in marker on the underside of the seat in large digits.

  22. I'd suggest the following on your car. With the shifter in park, disconnect the shift linkage from the shifter from underneath the car. Then move that linkage connected to the transmission to be sure it can be moved through all positions. If so, then put it back into park and then move it into reverse. Next go into the car and do the same exact thing. Be sure the shifter goes through all of the positions. Go to park, then reverse. Now under the car, loosen the linkage adjustment nuts and reinstall the linkage arm into the shifter. Tighten the nuts evenly on both sides. Go back into the car and test the shifter now. IF there was a problem with either the shifter or transmission when you checked them independently, then you know where the problem is. Usually, the linkage adjustment can be done in Neutral but the shifter can slide into drive when you are working on it so I use reverse since it locks into place.

    Another oddity concerning 63R1319… In the 2019 AOAI Roster, two owners are listed for this Avanti… In two different States…. Indiana & Alabama!!!!!
