Yes...I have.  I consider it a mistake to have done so.  it was intended for those later Avantis that used the fork-lift steering box to return the steering back to original specs.  You call it making the steering "jerky"...I've called it "darty".  While It's not unsafe it does seem to make for sudden steering movements.  You get used to it but it really doesn't help handling of turns lock-to-lock that I can see.  

My advice is to stick with what the factory designed for it.

It will steer like you're using a tiller.   One sec with your eyes off the road and you may be in the weeds

The 'factory' quick steering arms feel really good to me when I'm driving my '85 Avanti, however, it has what Gunny refers to above as the "fork lift" steering box.....a different animal from what Studebaker used!:o

That different steering box is just what led to the different steering arms.  It was an attempt to "balance" things out.
