Ron Dame
I am not a newbie to Studebaker s, but Avantis are another animal. I just noticed tgatvwhile the heads and top of the block of my R2, RS1038, are black, the oil pan and lower block are red. Has someone been messing around with this? What color should it be? Gunslinger
The engine block and heads should be black. The valley cover for early Avanti engines would be chrome and later were black as the rest of the engine. brad
The factory sprayed the insides of the engines with red glyptol, and some overspray dod get on the outside before being painted black. I have seen many engines that looked red under the black.
Ron Dame
The oil pan and lower block are definitely red, teh yop is black. It looks like it has newer freeze plugs, so maybe whomever just grabbed whatever they had available to paint it.
lschuc
Some previous owner probably painted the engine red to make it look like a Chevy!
