John D Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 Our 79 came with a non-functioning Blaupunkt, which I removed and saved. I installed a JVC two-shaft cassette am-fm that i had lying around ~5 years ago. As of yesterday the AM and the cassette deck still work but no FM. It isn't the antenna. What's the go-to? I noticed Bob Ziff at avantiparts.biz has Custom Autosound units with Bluetooth and USB but reviews say the Retrosound units are higher quality. is there a reliable rebuilder for the Blaupunkts? Hate to hack it up to put a single DIN unit in, but on the other hand it's far from stock anyway...
ronmanfredi Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 I found a rebuilder for mine a couple of years ago, but the cost to repair it was around $500 due to the labor involved to disassemble it. I discarded it and went with a different radio.
Footer Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 Crutchfield has retro units and they are pretty knowledgeable and helpful on the phone. Mike
mfg Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 I purchased a Custom Autosound unit for my ‘83 Avanti about 4 years ago, replacing a ‘dead’ Blaupunkt. It ‘s still working fine!
Skip Lackie Posted Saturday at 01:41 PM Report Posted Saturday at 01:41 PM I think I have a new-in-the-box 1980s-vintage Sanyo AM/FM/cassette with adjustable shafts in my stash somewhere. I have the same radio in my 74 and it fits fine.
Ron Dame Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago I put a RetroSound unit in my 1980, replacing a dead Blaupunkt. I do not like it. The bluetooth is clunky, the controls are not where you expect (mute is on the right shaft, and tuning??? it's odd) That's all I have to offer. I don't like mine.
