Steveeweeb Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 Has anyone installed a serpentine belt system on an R2 with AC yet? Wanted to see if it was worth the trouble or not.
lschuc Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 Check with Brad Bez. He has done this on several cars.
brad Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 This is one setup I constructed. I used a Chrysler lower pulley and the waterpump pulley is grooved as it has to turn in the same direction. I think I used a Ford belt tensioner. It's been a few years...back in 2016.
Steveeweeb Posted December 28, 2025 Author Report Posted December 28, 2025 Thanks Brad. Was is more work than it was worth? Regular belts really work ok anyway?
brad Posted December 29, 2025 Report Posted December 29, 2025 It depends on the boost levels of the supercharger. anything much higher than stock 4-5 lbs will slip the belts at higher RPMs. Serpentine belts are "grippier".

Gunslinger Posted December 29, 2025 Report Posted December 29, 2025 I would think that with the stock dual belt setup...unless you have belts with perfectly matched lengths...that the shorter one would end up taking most of the load even if the difference was minor...and lead to earlier failure of that belt. That doesn't even address the the longer belt would be more prone to slippage.

Brad, I'm adding A/C to my R2 using Rogers brackets. The side mount refrigerant ports on the compressor look perfect in your photo. Do you remember the compressor part #? (v groove belt)
Steveeweeb Posted December 29, 2025 Author Report Posted December 29, 2025 Good thoughts Gunslinger. Thanks
brad Posted Saturday at 06:35 PM Report Posted Saturday at 06:35 PM Rodgers bracket is for a Sanden 508. I made my own bracket, and used a 7176 series. it is serpentine. They do make them in V-belt too.
