Studebaker V8 engine oil pans were the same from ‘55 thru ‘64, excepting for the special Avanti ‘R type’ engine oil pan……True?

I'm a little gun shy on these true/false questions. It seems there's so many answers that I never get it right. My thinking is that the only difference from 55-64 (other than R engines) was the later full flow engine. My assumption is that they didn't have to make changes to the pan to make it full flow, so I will say true.

Well, no one can knock you for trying Mark!

However,  the answer here is FALSE… although all of these Stude V8 oil pans will bolt up to various year blocks.. the 1955 pans, both C/K and sedan, are different from the later pans. especially noticeable on the C/K versions, which had a considerably larger oil sump.

The ‘53-‘55 Stude V8 C/K engine oil pan might be a nice addition on later 8 cylinder Hawks for anyone looking to increase engine oil capacity…. However, on ‘R’ engined GT Hawks, the interior baffling of the pan would need to be reconfigured.

55 was also the last year for the floating oil pickup tube. Earlier 232 oil pumps had spiral gears instead of spur gears.

Didn’t know that about the real early Stude V8 oil pumps.

I think the oil pan you’re talking about was a 6 quart pan. I wonder if any consideration was made toward using that pan versus the welded up R3/4 pan?

Probably not… Although it would have fit  in a G.T.Hawk, it would not have cleared the more forward (on frame) engine placement of Avanti or Lark type vehicles. (dictated by the 10.5 inch shorter wheelbases of the later)
