Chrome on the valve covers, chrome on the valley cover, chrome on the engine oil dipstick, chrome on the air cleaner, chrome on the oil filler caps. Is this the stuff you mean?

Sorry no, the chrome helps present the engine as an Avanti R1....Part of the package.

I’m sure this isn’t it but maybe the throttle kicker and ignition shielding on a radio delete car?

Hmmm....Good point on a rare radio delete Avanti...however, I'm speaking of the "normal" radio equipped R1 Stude Avanti.

But they sure don't make any difference in how the engine runs (the engine will have proper operation even if you take the chrome plating off the parts and paint them). 🙂

Ok, let's try this. The vacuum/boost gauge, which is hooked to the engine -- the boost side of the gauge does nothing on a R1.

Sorry no, that's an interior item!

Yes, the engine would operate the same...however the assumption here is that we are speaking of a complete 'as built by Studebaker' Avanti R1 engine...The chrome parts were part of that package.

Paul...an R1 engine would operate the same without its oil dipstick in place...but an oil dipstick was part of the original package!!!

Boost line running to top of fuel pump on R2 might be one?

Sorry no.... As R1's were not equipped with that R2 boost line.

Anything to do with the pcv system?

Good thought..and I understand there's a difference in the brass carb fitting...but the pcv system is not the answer here!

How about the pulley system? Getting desperate.

YOU'RE A SHARPIE NELSON!!

Yes..the two outer grooves on a Stude R1 Avanti's crank pulley and also it's water pump pulley, are never used in the factory R1 configuration.

( R1  a/c models have different setup)
