mfg Posted January 22 Report Posted January 22 Name two features found on a Studebaker Avanti R1 engine which are non- essential for the proper operation of the engine.
r1lark Posted January 22 Report Posted January 22 (edited) Chrome on the valve covers, chrome on the valley cover, chrome on the engine oil dipstick, chrome on the air cleaner, chrome on the oil filler caps. Is this the stuff you mean? Edited January 22 by r1lark

Nelson Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 I’m sure this isn’t it but maybe the throttle kicker and ignition shielding on a radio delete car?

mfg Posted January 23 Author Report Posted January 23 HINT!... Found on both R1 & R2 engines...but not used on the R1's!

But they sure don't make any difference in how the engine runs (the engine will have proper operation even if you take the chrome plating off the parts and paint them). 🙂
r1lark Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Ok, let's try this. The vacuum/boost gauge, which is hooked to the engine -- the boost side of the gauge does nothing on a R1.Â
Nelson Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Boost line running to top of fuel pump on R2 might be one?

mfg Posted January 24 Author Report Posted January 24 Paul...an R1 engine would operate the same without its oil dipstick in place...but an oil dipstick was part of the original package!!!

mfg Posted January 24 Author Report Posted January 24 REPEAT HINT!... BOTH R1 and R2 Avanti engines have these items....but these items are NEVER utilized on the R1! Â
mfg Posted January 24 Author Report Posted January 24 Just now, Nelson said: Anything to do with the pcv system? Good thought..and I understand there's a difference in the brass carb fitting...but the pcv system is not the answer here!
mfg Posted January 24 Author Report Posted January 24 13 minutes ago, Nelson said: How about the pulley system? Getting desperate. YOU'RE A SHARPIE NELSON!! Yes..the two outer grooves on a Stude R1 Avanti's crank pulley and also it's water pump pulley, are never used in the factory R1 configuration. ( R1Â a/c models have different setup) Â
Nelson Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 It took awhile. The answer seems obvious after you hear the answer.
