Avanti 79 Posted December 4, 2023 Report Posted December 4, 2023 Has anyone had their gear box leak from the adjustment screw? If you did, how did you stop it from leaking? Thanks for any help.
Bill Hanlon Posted December 5, 2023 Report Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) I would look for information on a Jeep forum. They used the same steering box on early jeeps. Without saying the obvious, is the lock nut tight? Edited December 5, 2023 by Bill Hanlon
Avanti 79 Posted December 5, 2023 Author Report Posted December 5, 2023 Hi Bill, Thanks for the information. Yes, the nut is tight.
Bill Hanlon Posted December 5, 2023 Report Posted December 5, 2023 See this link. Where you get one I have not found yet. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/leak-power-steering-gear-box-adjustment-screw-315073/
silverstude Posted December 8, 2023 Report Posted December 8, 2023 (edited) Are you using the correct lube ? Many vendors have a semi fluid grease that won't run. Edited December 8, 2023 by silverstude
wildfelr Posted December 8, 2023 Report Posted December 8, 2023 RQB3263/81/305 .... WHILE THIS WONT STOP THE LEAK IT WILL CERTAINLY MAKE ACCESS TO STEERING BOX WAAAAY EASIER .....FYI THE COVER PANELIS .063 ALUMINUM..... BEST WISHES..... BILL IN FLORIDA
Avanti 79 Posted December 11, 2023 Author Report Posted December 11, 2023 Thanks to all for your help. I have seen that some vendors have the semi fluid grease, I will order some, it is certainly worth a try. If anyone knows, would I want to drain any fluid in the steering gear box first, before adding the new semi fluid grease? Thanks again for all your help. Joe
