cursed avanti Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 I need to install a new under hood pad. What type of adhesive should I use? CA
Leo B Posted May 19, 2023 Report Posted May 19, 2023 (edited) If you mean Hood Insulator / Hood Liner ... I used 3M #80 Adhesive Spray. I bought earlier the original styling material and lightly sewed the edges by hand so they don't come loose and hang. I also sprayed hole insulator with black spray. I also bought a neat insulator for the future. They have ready one for Stude Avanti. https://hoodliners.net/collections Edited May 19, 2023 by Leo B

Skip Lackie Posted May 21, 2023 Report Posted May 21, 2023 3M makes an adhesive for this application and headliners. Super Trim Adhesive, product 8090. Any auto parts store can get it.
cursed avanti Posted May 22, 2023 Author Report Posted May 22, 2023 Thanks Skip, that's what I needed to know ! CA
Jim S Posted September 6, 2023 Report Posted September 6, 2023 I tried 3M trim and adhesive and my insulator fell off as soon as the underhood temperatures rose. Then I tried Gorilla glue spray adhesive and again first hot day and after driving for an hour the insulator fell off again. I need something that will hold the insulator in place in these extreme temperatures.

Did you use the HD adhesive, 3M number 8090? 3M makes two or three different similar products, but only the #8090 is designed to hold headliners and under hood pads. Also, the instructions must be followed exactly.

I don't know if this is available in the US. Product is: Four Connect Spray Adhesive. 3M 8090 seems to be correct choice. AD Posted September 8, 2023 Report Posted September 8, 2023 I used DAP Weldwood contact cement, available at Home Depot. I live in AZ where it gets pretty hot, and the pad has been holding on OK.
Jim S Posted September 9, 2023 Report Posted September 9, 2023 I was leaning towards trying Weldwood. Thanks for the tips all!
