Nelson Posted February 27, 2023 Report Posted February 27, 2023 Joe didn’t drive his Cadillac powered Avanti much. What was the problem he encountered.
Gunslinger Posted February 28, 2023 Report Posted February 28, 2023 Overheating if I remember correctly.
mfg Posted February 28, 2023 Report Posted February 28, 2023 Some Stude Avantis are hot runners with factory 289 CI engines.....add another 140 CI using the same radiator, and engine temperature problems are no doubt inevitable in California's climate. 🥺
Nelson Posted February 28, 2023 Author Report Posted February 28, 2023 Correct. He couldn’t get it to stay cool. I remember reading about that back in the early 70’s when the car was for sale in AOA magazine. I wonder how it does now?
Footer Posted February 28, 2023 Report Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) The article in the Avanti magazine says “the radiator was rotated 90 degrees and straightened up to a vertical plane for better cooling”. Didn’t say whether it helped. Not sure I understand rotating it 90 degrees. Mike Edited February 28, 2023 by Footer
Gunslinger Posted February 28, 2023 Report Posted February 28, 2023 I think the move to make the radiator sit vertical was made necessary to fit the Caddy engine. The idea it was for better cooling was probably a way of explaining it in a way to justify the work.
mfg Posted March 1, 2023 Report Posted March 1, 2023 Yes, the radiator was removed and somehow re-installed vertically.... That in itself would not effect engine cooling (IMHO)...It really comes down to creating an effective fan shroud. 🙂
