mfg Posted February 3, 2023 Report Posted February 3, 2023 What was the technical reason Studebaker chose to employ a 'dry type' engine air filltration system on their R2-R3 Avantis, as opposed to the 'wet' type?
Dwight FitzSimons Posted February 3, 2023 Report Posted February 3, 2023 Perhaps that the suction of the supercharger would pull droplets of oil through the blower and into the engine. Besides, oil-bath air cleaners were obsolete by the early 1960s anyway. Also, oil-bath air cleaners were bulky and would have taken up too much room. --Dwight

An oil bath air filter did not fit the "hi performance image" of the Avanti either!

Gunslinger Posted February 4, 2023 Report Posted February 4, 2023 What’s old is new again…K&N air filters are essentially modern oil bath filters but many refuse to use them as they can supposedly allow debris flow through.
