Name a "poor man's" way of increasing crankcase ventilation for an R1 or R2 Studebaker Avanti engine.

(NOT by adding R3 type four breather valve covers...or modifying factory crank vent system)

Good answer, however since adding that would somewhat defeat the factory closed crankcase system, I'd say no.

Installing earlier breather (oil fill) caps that don't have the small orifice holes?

Can't argue with that!.....however, not really the answer I'm looking for!

Keep those interesting ideas coming!

ANSWER......Remove the factory cover at top front of engine block. (which caps off original oil inlet)

Obtain a '61-'62 aluminum oil inlet pipe, and cut it down to approx 5" in height.

Bolt modified pipe to block in place of the factory cover you removed.

Add an oil fill cap to pipe, (preferably chromed)...AND START BREATHING!!

PS...I made this mod to my own '63 Avanti approx twenty years ago.... It's not unusual to hear comments from Studebaker knowledgeable folks at car shows....always positive!
