j the teacher Posted July 14, 2015 Report Posted July 14, 2015 Was told by mechanic, the radiator on my 88 is not a GM radiator. Any truth or is it BS?
RonB Posted July 14, 2015 Report Posted July 14, 2015 I had one, silver anniversary. Looked like GM to me. BUT it is a post 64 Avanti so you never know
Gunslinger Posted July 14, 2015 Report Posted July 14, 2015 It should say "Harrison" on it somewhere if it's GM. You might try looking up on some Chevy restoration sites for a Monte Carlo radiator and see if the diagrams or photos match up.
IndyJimW Posted July 16, 2015 Report Posted July 16, 2015 (edited) Was told by mechanic, the radiator on my 88 is not a GM radiator. Any truth or is it BS? Not sure what my 1987 is, but is different then earlier Avanti because it sits in the front different. I just took mine down to my Radiator Shop and had it recored. wdaly Posted July 16, 2015 Report Posted July 16, 2015 Was told by mechanic, the radiator on my 88 is not a GM radiator. Any truth or is it BS? The radiator (according to Mike Kelly) is from Acme Radiator Goshen, IN. My mechanic says it's Not from GM (think it's smaller but thicker). I've had mine re-cored Twice since I bought it New. Bill D
mfg Posted July 18, 2015 Report Posted July 18, 2015 A pal of mine who owns a real nice '89 Avanti coupe recently had its radiator recored.....For what its worth, he told me it turned out to be the same core as used on earlier Avantis back to '63. That same core was also used in the Mark lll Lincoln Continentals.
