Avanti Gutters!

When Studebaker determined that their new Avanti needed rain gutters, the biggest challenge was making sure these gutters had an aerodynamic 'look', in harmony with the rest of the car's design...True?

I've no idea of the answer, but I'm sure a major consideration was cost. Studebaker was in dire economic straits and I would think they not only wanted rain channels to look nice but be as inexpensive as possible considering the base price of the car was kept the same for an added standard feature.

No doubt!....But the stated question still remains.......True or False?

I say false.

Their main concern was figuring out how were they going to add a gutter. The rest comes after that.

FALSE is the correct answer 1963r2, but I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned what the biggest problem actually was! (adding a gutter not it)....Ideas? ( This was a widely told story)

I was told they actually forgot! and only added them after getting complaints of people getting soaked.

Yes, there's no doubt that's why gutters were added to Avantis,...but it doesn't answer the question as to what was the single biggest problem in designing these rain gutters was.

Maybe the biggest design problem was making sure the rain channels delivered the appropriate of water into the interior.

Ha ha!!...No, that would be the END RESULT of adding the gutters!!!!!!

ANSWER....The biggest problem the designers of the Avanti rain gutter (Egbert included) had, was getting the shape of it right to eliminate a persistent and annoying wind whistle at speed!
