In a prior post I mentioned a Concept Drawing of a futuristic Avanti... Thought I'd share... Maybe these have been seen before ... Maybe not.
-
I guess I don't know enough about Studie History. One thing is obvious to me though... The Avanti was a forward thinking design when all Studies other options were starting to look dated. ( I think I can state that with some authority being a Designer myself by Trade) Add to that, with the sales of the Co overall and financials looking bleak, I'm actually surprised it was ever built....Very glad it was and quite impressed it continued into the later years by side sources after Studie closed their doors. What other car has EVER Done That and without significant body design changes? That took some exceptional doing of some firm enthusiasts and prior employees. So I own a '63' R2 and a '02' The '02', I doubt ANYONE saw the AVX coming. I am quite the Enthusiast and a small time Collector (6 cars at present)..When the '01''s emerged, I never knew of it until last year. They were less known than De-lorean , Bricklin or other oddities that emerged,. Also far superior due to the TA and Stang platforms. So I'm no good at looking back on what happened or how it might have been different. I''m just thrilled that the ''Avanti Legend'' continued as far and as long as it did. ........ I might add. ...Is the Stang Platform going to be the last Avanti? I've seen some exceptional Concept Drawings and designs on paper. I'm not holding my breath and turning blue, but maybe... Just Maybe!!

Personally what could be more sedate than a 289 Auto with A,C.? Studie was in a state of disarray, and competing and seeing the upcoming Muscle/Sport market. There were other options for the "Tamed", like the Lark., and other options.
-
Definitely XKE.. But back on topic.. The first Avanti II, I saw was when Ron Dame came over with His red one. '''Nice Car, Ron!'''. He resides about 35 miles from me and drove out one day. He also is a poster on this site.

Not doubting you Reg... Just a direct quote out of John Hull's book. Your point also makes sense since i consider a round headlight model a '63'. .When seeing what You typed, and knowing the round ones were also sold in '64', it makes sense. I also ran into conflict trying to find out production numbers of my '02' Model. Finally one day John Hull sent a forum message that there were 33 made that year. I still don't know about production numbers for the surrounding years. It has been a strange thing to me that good production records were not kept...especially in the later years.
-
Just found this Ron. Great news. I just got in the rebuilt brake booster... gonna try it today.
-
Reg... Exactly... introduced in ''64 1/2 - 66''... An answer to Avanti , though Studie was going down and out... then Camaro in ''67', coming in late to the game. I owned one of these, detonated the engine, sold it to a Friend and we Restored it with parts from 2 other Stangs. Gotta Love them Pony Cars. So according to John Hulls book, Studie made 1390#'s in '63' and 3257#'s in '64'..Then it was taken over by Altman (and later others) and numbers dropped to no more than 256#'s in any given year. (most years less than 150#'s)... What is confusing me is when the production numbers plummeted, why then are their values less than the first 2 years? Due to Rarity they should be equal or more valuable. I guess it's due to the '63-4' being the originals??? All were basically Hand Made Cars.... A lost art in this Country.. with some exceptions.
-
Mfg.. It is amazing from all the Car Shows I was involved in as a Youth, and all the Car restorations I did as well as those I hung with.. but I speak truth. I heard they were making Avanti's in Canada. I didn't know that was basically false. No clue of the AVX's and their History. The only thing I knew about the Studie Company is my Dad drove a Commander but i was age 5ish....My Dad was a Hi Level Ford Exec. I was artistic (still am) and He would take me to work and into the Design Studios.. The Mustang was in clay modeling, thus my love went to them...Owned 4 of em over the years. But the Avanti's? I'm again WOWED !!
-
This may sound strange, but it wasn't until last year that i saw my first '63, and bought it....; and this year in January, when on this Forum, I first saw the AVX and i bought my '02'. from a Seller on this site. I turn 70 next month. At age 9, reading the Detroit News there was a picture of the '63'.... To me it was Beautiful. I cut out the picture and kept it.... I fell in Love with the Design ...but after all of those years I NEVER saw one on the road or at any Car Shows. Is that due to the rarity and low production numbers? Dunno. I even moved to Indiana .... Home of Studie, and still never saw one. I'm quite the Collector and have 5 Collector Cars.. 4 are Sports Cars. Why it was until last year before seeing either of the 2 models is actually shocking to me. I can't tell You what drew me to start looking for my '63...I'm just glad I had that pulling or prodding. ..I'm THRILLED to be an owner of both Awesome Classic ....................... My Brain Fart ended and I finally remembered what triggered my Avanti Interest. Last year on Motortrend TV, The show "Counting Cars'', Counts Kustoms run by Danny Koker featured a '63' Avanti being retro-modded for Alice Cooper. THAT My Friends was the Trigger that shot the bullet in my mind to go looking for one. Alice was retro'ing His Daily Driver. Now I am not into the whole Retro scene, but do appreciate the efforts... Mine is a stock 99% Original R2.

4dr Molds headed to Ohio https://www.hemmings.com/stories/avanti-four-door-body-molds-head-home/
-
So at $128.1k it didn't meet reserve.
-
MFG. For my '63' they had to create a whole new vin number.. since it didn't meet NC Standards. But that wasn't really an issue. On the '02' it's registered and taxed as a Firebird. It worked to my advantage from a $$ stance.
-
I'm following this....It's not an R2 which slightly detracts from the cars end value., but the low mileage is tempting. I say that but IF the car as not been run some, it can actually cause issues . Ya gotta run Your Vehicles to keep the fluids turning and seals fresh(er).
-
You do know everything below the bridge line is hi crime area.
-
Yeah, It's Pontiac, and at the time far more expensive than the Firebird Trans Am.... Maybe $30k more. I wouldn't think the Registration was an issue, but Insuring to value? Yeah, that's even a headache now.\
-
I appreciate it as well., and it is not found on nameplates of a few other years in that time era. The '01' as I understand doesn't have that on the plate. Seems they acquired the Studie Name after in production. I wish someone could address the differences but guess it's of little importance.
-
The reason I ask is my Nameplate on my '02' has both Studie and Avanti on Her. Yes ... It's Bass Ackwards. If a newer model there are likely numerous parts from around the world.
-
What years?... they made em till '07'.
-
Seems the pricing on 63-64's are rising. I'm seeing multiple R2's going for over $50k... Quite glad to see it. I paid $16k and some shipping. I'm also doing some minor repairs and would classify My car as a 8 out of 10 condition wise. It's 99% original...I think mine could bring at least $45-50k... I'm quite pleased and I might list Mine at the end of the year. On the 4 spd, I agree and wish mine was one of them. They call Manual Tranny's "Anti Theft" since so few people can even drive em. I grew up at age 14 driving a ''3 on the tree'' Rambler and farm tractors, so I'm in.

What Brake Booster can be used on a '63' - '71' Avanti?
aardvark replied to aardvark's topic in Avanti Trivia
Thanks. MFG Theres a lot of vacuum psi when the hose is released .. It goes Woosh. telling me it has good psi. I can't speak from the past use, since I've not been able to drive this car more than 3 miles since I've owned it. (very frustrating) This is the last issue holding me back. -
What Brake Booster can be used on a '63' - '71' Avanti?
aardvark replied to aardvark's topic in Avanti Trivia
Thank You Both. Much appreciation to Y'all. Yeah Bob seems like He's on it. The booster is due to to ship out for re-building as soon as a Shipping Label comes in from Mr Ziff. My understanding is that about every 3rd or 4th one re-built come back not working. -
I don't know the answer to this so I was hoping someone had some good suggestions. My '63" Avanti Booster is toast. I've only found 1 source to rebuild the Bendix Unit. It's a questionable source but they are quite helpful...www.Avantiparts.Biz They have no "In House" Boosters to sell so they are having me send mine out to a Re-Builder. The question then arrises what other Car ''Make Model Year'' maybe even a Part number ...will swap still using the Single master Cyl. This is a 4 bolt setup. I might add, there are NO stampings or identifying marks on the Part I have,,, Then only way I know it's Bendix is from My Repair Manual.. which also gives no numbers.
-
I'm going with 18.5 gal. That would be the Trans Am Based car. correct?
-
Knowing my '02' Avanti was quite expensive (~$65-80k new), they all ...all years... were a Rich Mans Toy. What amazes me is the deflated price on mine, when considering it might be worth up to $50k. That to me is a loss. But yeah, they are nearly a Hand Built Car
-
Yeah, I followed it. Got too rich for my blood but I actually since I own one, I was glad to see the higher pice being paid. It tells me mine might be worth more than I thought.
