  1. I was wandering through a few antique places near Warrenton Va recently and came across these parts in the corner of a garage. The were in boxes labelled Studebaker. Can anyone identify them?

    Only joking....

These are pictures of a few, very rare parts owned by Greg Cone. Greg lives in the rural Washington suburbs where he tinkers with things like cars and airplanes. He has a very good reputation for quality and excellence in workmanship and wanted to share with everyone his latest projects.

The below link was started by John Feser (unimogjohn) from Marshall VA, who is an excellent crafsman in his own right and is displaying his efforts in restoring an avanti. He's been incorporating excerpts from Greg's projects, in with his own.

Please take the time to go to the below link and read through the pages. They start on page 29, so much has already transpired. Greg wanted this informaton on the SDC/AOAI sites and ok'd me posting it.

This will be an interesting year...

  3. Does anyone on the forum know the NAPA or Timken front wheel bearing inner and outer Part numbers for the '63-4 Avanti? I posted this on the '66-83 forum site as well to get the widest audience.

Napa only carries SKF around me. At least they're made in Mexico and not China... You need a #2 and a #6, outer/inner. They come with the races included..

  4. This week I celebrate 55 weeks of ownership of my 70 Avanti II - and was looking over a list I have been keeping of the types of vehicles people thought this car was.

Some of them have been from the 'Twilight Zone'

    Here they are -

    Maserati - 3

The James Bond Car - 4

    Aston Martin - 2

    Jaguar - 5

    Jensen Healey - 2

    Valiant/Barracuda - 1

    Matador - 2

Porsche - 7 [all in Oklahoma]

    Toronado - 1

    Austin Healey - 1

    Devlin - 1

"Some Kind of Kit Car" - 3 [all in Florida]

    Javelin - 2

    Lamborghini Muira - 1

    Vespa - 1

    Henry J -2

Correctly identified as an Avanti - 43 [29 women, and 14 men - the women all said that their dads or granddads had owned one]

And finally, FERRARI - 14 [the reason for this many errors, has to be the inserts in my rims. It is bright yellow, with a black (belligerent) rabbit - courtesy of Terlingua Racing Team. From a distance, is does resemble the prancing horse of Ferrari - especially while spinning].

As I have removed all exterior 'Nameplates', it is understandable about the confusion about what it actually is, but a VESPA ? ? ? ? ?

    Have a Happy New Year

    HI,

In contrast, I've owned my 1970 ( RQA-0381) since it was ....new. That's roughly 37 years. I can attest to the fact that you won't get tired of it...

  5. Can anyone recommend any good books, products etc. on fiberglass body repair?

Is there products to stay away from that may not be compatible with the fiberglass used in my '87 Avanti?

I have a crack I need to repair in the front fender and a hole at the drivers door sill where the fiberglass is thin. Also is there a metal support around the rear window that moisture can rust causing the fiberglas to pop up between the rear window glass lower corner and the trunk?

    Thanks and Merry Christmas

    Jim Wood

As long as you use a 2 part epoxy resin, there shouldn't be any problem. You can use Drywall fiberglass tape as a reinforcement for any hole. Any crack would have to be end drilled to make sure it 'stops'. Refinishing using a 2K primer, then a sanding primer, urethane coatings.

  6. I am in the process of restoring a 64 Avanti and the local Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes group does not have the formula to match the Avanti Red. Can anybody help?

PPG has it in their archive as P-6334. You have to get a PPG jobber to call them.
