    I would think that it would weigh about 23 pounds less, so I will say 4) 25.

    A 2004 is 295 HP (base engine), so I will say 275 HP.

    I have lifted them with beams through the window openings.  For a frame to support the body, how about using the body to frame mount points?

    As a direct answer to your question - I do not know, but someone probably does.  Why do you want/need this?  I have owned several Avantis and worked on many more and never had a need for this.

    ANSWER....An important Stude Avanti production change occurred at this serial number....A new cable was added between the starter solenoid & ignition coil to give a full 12 volts to the coil while engine is cranked,  improving starting!  (Studebaker part # 1560412)

    Not too small - A nephew of mine just turned 64 years old a couple of weeks ago.

    I thought Studebaker already had that system.  Perhaps just a new cable or way to do it.  AhHa - It was a cable from the starter rather than the ignition switch.  There was already 12 volts at cranking.

I do not know the individual.  It sounds like a "fishy" deal, but may not be.  If they give you a complete cash payment, I would release the car to them.  Other than cash, they would have to wait until the funds cleared.  There are even a lot of phony "certified checks" floating around.  Just plain refuse any where they want some "overpayment" returned to them.

    The original poster, John C,  lists a 1963, not 1983, Avanti in his profile, so I assumed that is the Avanti that he is referring to.

    Didn't your '85 come with the different steering gear box which was the reason for the different arms?  Your '85 would be different than installing these arms on a '63.  The net is, I do not recommend the change on a '63.

    Thanks.  That is a new one to me.  Much of my Studebaker mechanical info I got from working with a friend who had been the head mechanic at a Studebaker dealer. He used Paul's method.  It does seem that this method would work.

  14. I believe that would not be the convertible, that was developed at the same time, but rather the prototype 1983 Avanti GT coupe that participated in the 24 Hours at Mid-Ohio.  I believe that the car (the only one) still exists.

    EDIT: 5 speed close ratio GM manual transmission.  

  15. To me, the three wire one looks like it is made for installation from the back.  The three wire one looks best, EXCEPT that it is meant to snap through thin sheet metal and would not stay in your housing with the long wall on the opening.

    How about removing, reconditioning and reusing your existing socket?
