I finally got around to looking at this post. The serial numbers and vins on this Avanti version is certainly confusing. My Avanti vin ends in 013, and the vin label has it as a 2005 Avanti. It also says that it was made in Oct 2006. John Drake, the cars original owner said that it was a 2006, which is what I tell people, and that it was the prototype for the Mustang-based cars. Could it be that it was the first one, but that final assembly/sale wasn't done until 2006?? I just don't know what to believe or what to tell people.
As far as the original question, when I brought it to a Ford dealer for the airbag recall, they didn't say that they had any problems fixing it.
The 2005 Avanti bodies are different from the 2006-2007 Avanti bodies. From the tiny picture of yours, I can not tell. With a VIN of ---13, I do not see how it could be the prototype. From what I have to work with, I believe that your Avanti is a 2006 model.

AFAIK, the Avanti was the only Studebaker production car with curved side glass.
I should probably qualify this by saying door glass, as some, including prewar, had curved glass (curved in the other direction) on the side of the car.

Gary, so as not to confuse people, I'll mention that R5516 WAS NOT one of the nine 'production line' R3 powered 1964 Studebaker Avantis.
Had it not been wrecked, It would have received a 'crated' R3 Avanti engine.
The closest 'production line' R3 powered Avanti to R5516 would be R5532!
By "...one-third of the way through...", I meant that three R3 Avantis were built before this Avanti and six R3 Avantis were built after this Avanti.

I suggest posting them in the For Sale section of this Forum and also in the Studebaker Drivers Club Forum. It may help if you give a general idea of where the heads are located (because of possible shipping).

AFAIK, the Avanti was the only Studebaker production car with curved side glass.

R5516 was one-third of the way through the factory run of R3 Avantis.
-
I would think that 218 would be a 1968 model year.
-
Power steering wasn't checked on that wish list/order, but the Avanti was obviously built with it. Someone just posted that they are looking for a passenger side hood support.

These 'fine points' keep it all interesting!!.....Well, now I'm going to take my '55 Speedster out for a run....The temp around here is due to reach 95' (plus humidity) in a couple hours!...Ed
Sounds the same as the weather here. I wouldn't take a black (IIRC), non-A/C, K body, V8, car "for a run" until at least the sun went down.

I haven't the slightest....however, that's a good question and quite possible!.....In other words, possibly NONE of the personalities mentioned in this trivia question actually owned Avantis!!
However, if the record/management companies that owned the Avantis were themselves owned by the celebrities, then the celebrities owned the Avantis.
-
ISTR, True that it is the same Avanti, however, it may be a trick question because I do not remember it being the Smith's home.
-
Based on the time frame of the change and the price, I will say Chevrolet.

Rick Nelson owned two Avantis over time...you say both Neil Young and Joyce Brothers either do or did own Avantis...Alice Cooper has owned at least two Avantis...that's all four possibilities. Is there a fifth possibility or was this a trick question?
I think that it may be a trick question. Perhaps the Avanti was owned by a company/record label/etc. and not the individual.

Sorry no,...... Neil Young indeed owns/owned a Studebaker Avanti!
I thought that the other three were owners, but I am more sure of 2 & 3, so I will say 1) Joyce Brothers.

Which of the following well -known personalities has never owned an Avanti automobile?
1) Joyce Brothers ......2) Ricky Nelson.....3) Alice Cooper.....or....4) Neil Young
I will say 4) Neil Young. I almost bought Barbara Walters' Avanti (not on your list).
-
I can only think of two, so I will say two.
-
I don't want to take the time to look it up, so I will just say 9.
-
At least the second body went on the second Avanti.

PS.....I think Australia is a continent Gary!
In my thinking, it is an island continent.
How about England, that is part of an island.

Australia

My guess is it was built with the first South Bend body.

I'm guessing it's the first Avanti with "63" dropped from the serial number.
I think that was around R3100, but I am not the "decider" on these trivia questions.

Sorry, answer #3 is not correct!
I do not have 1964 prices handy, so I will say #4) $4575, assuming that there was a small price increase from 1963.

For the 1964 model year, which had a higher suggested list price.....An R1 Avanti powered Daytona Wagonaire or an R1 Avanti powered Gran Turismo Hawk? (all other options equal)
The Hawk but only by a couple of hundred dollars (the RI did cost more in the Wagonaire than in the Hawk).
dual carbs
in 1965-83 Avanti

Why would you want to put two 4 bbls on such a small displacement (I know, Studebaker offered it on a 304)? Perhaps you just want the look. If you want performance, I suggest one of the new FI systems available (should be easy and plentiful for a SBC). For your initial statement - I do not know of this being done and it probably would run into an interference issue, particularly with a normal air cleaner.
EDIT: I would think that RQA 0048 would be a 1965 model Avanti. Perhaps your Avanti was not sold/titled/registered until the 1967 model year.
