I had read somewhere that an Avanti Pillow, and an Avanti Flag, were given away to the dealers attending the airlift but not sure how accurate this is.
BTW, I have one of the original Avanti trays that my Dad brought home from his dealership and gave to my mom. She used it for 50 years
and recently gave it to me.
-
There were color pics of the two Avantis posted on the SDC forum a couple of years ago, taken by someone who attended one of the airlifts. One was white and the other was gold. So I will say FALSE.
-
False, Corvette's already used a similar system.
-
Sure, anything is removable with a cutting torch :-)
Seriously, I really have no idea on this one Ed. Anything would be just a guess on my part, and I try to stay away from guessing on these trivia questions.
But thanks for posting them, I enjoy them!

Hmmm......I'll go out on a limb and say all three are valid reasons for using the 'blacked out' area on the windshield.
-
No need to guess..... the +49% increase is well documented. :-)

Duesenberg?

OK, attempt number 2:
Shape like zee Coke bottle (gotta read this with a little bit of French accent)
Scoop instead of grille
Wedge shape
Off center raised area on hood (seems like I've seen more specific parameters in some articles like "gun sight lineup with the road" or something to that extent)
-
I remember this from the Langworth book (Postwar Years), but seems like there were more than two -- no telephone calls, no women, no going to town, no clocks allowed.

The answer can be found in the Parts Manual. The "Model Symbol" for the Avanti was "R". So the engines developed for the Model R (Avanti) were designated as R-1, R-2, R-3, and R-4.

The engineers saw bearing damage during sustained high rpm dynamometer testing, and determined that the oil was being retained in the lifter valley and rocker covers instead of draining back to the oil pan. No oil in the oil pan does really ugly things at high rpm........
-
Not sure what you mean by 'timing'.
To improve high rpm oil drainback to the oil pan, the main oil drainback hole from the lifter valley was enlarged (elongated) by about 1/3, and moved more forward of the gear that drives the distributor. The path of the crankcase ventilation air was also changed so that it assisted, rather than fought against, the oil drainback from the lifter area. Also, to prevent the oil from 'flooding' the rocker covers, the oil flow to the rocker shafts was restricted.
Since this doesn't sound like 'timing' to me, I will say FALSE.

This is the Avanti Forum. I do not see how something that only applies to a Lark belongs here. (Yes, I know that there were standard shift Avantis, but that is not what the question was about.)
-
I'll say TRUE. According to Andy G., the R5 had a 2 quart dry sump oiling system with a cooler for each supercharger. Does this count, especially since you did not designate whether you were referring to the engine lube system or the supercharger lube system?
-
I was thinking that the supercharger drive balls were made in Switzerland, so I will say FALSE. (I should know better than to disagree with studegary on Studebaker details, but let's roll the dice
)
-
The insulator pads made out of cut up old tires? (These are not exactly 'weak', but all I could think of........
).
-
Don't know the seller, but that Avanti II sure has a nice rake to it. Looks a lot different that the Avanti II's of this era that I've seen.
-
I'm going to say 'false'.......not that I know a whole lot about how Studebaker painted the Avantis, but just because I don't remember lacquer paint jobs being 'cleared' back in the '60s.
-
That sounds about right.......but I'm too lazy to go dig the gaskets out to verify it. So I'll say 'true'.
-
The planned 340CI Studebaker engine, if put into production, would probably have been un-supercharged, as Paxton superchargers lose their effectiveness when used on engines over 325 CI displacement....True?
False - as long as you have enough of them.
The Granatelli's ran two Paxtons on a 1960 300F 413 c.i. Chrysler.

John, it's folks like you that make this a great hobby. Thanks for doing this!

First 20th anniversary edition made?
-
They were also both 'prototypes' or better yet 'engineering test mules' for upcoming models/options.
-
They were both driven by the Presidents of the companies that manufactured them.
Chilly Avanti!

Hmmm.........the price sheet I have for 1966 Avanti II effective August 2, 1965 has A/C listed at $275. The prices sheet effective August 1, 1968 (I assume for 1969 model year) has A/C listed for $425. So......I'll assume that they decided after 1966 that their price for the A/C wasn't high enough, and went to $425 in 1967.
Answer: 3) $425
