  1. I think the '82s still used the Studebaker frame. And I know that the Avanti and Hawk traction bars were the same (the Lark for some reason was the odd one out). Now whether the traction bars were still used on an '82 I don't know for sure.......but I think maybe they were. So I will take the opposite tack from Charlie and say "TRUE". :)

  2. FALSE!  Same part number -- if something works, keep using it. :P

Whoops, just realized that you said 1984 instead of 1964. Well, a '39 Commander and '64 Avanti was the same part number so I will stick with FALSE......hoping the Altmans continued using that same boot.

  3. Hmmm.........the price sheet I have for 1966 Avanti II effective August 2, 1965 has A/C listed at $275. The prices sheet effective August 1, 1968 (I assume for 1969 model year) has A/C listed for $425. So......I'll assume that they decided after 1966 that their price for the A/C wasn't high enough, and went to $425 in 1967.

    Answer: 3) $425

  4. I had read somewhere that an Avanti Pillow, and an Avanti Flag, were given away to the dealers attending the airlift but not sure how accurate this is.

BTW, I have one of the original Avanti trays that my Dad brought home from his dealership and gave to my mom. She used it for 50 years :) and recently gave it to me.

  5. There were color pics of the two Avantis posted on the SDC forum a couple of years ago, taken by someone who attended one of the airlifts. One was white and the other was gold. So I will say FALSE.

  6. Sure, anything is removable with a cutting torch :-)

Seriously, I really have no idea on this one Ed. Anything would be just a guess on my part, and I try to stay away from guessing on these trivia questions.

But thanks for posting them, I enjoy them!

  7. OK, attempt number 2:

Shape like zee Coke bottle (gotta read this with a little bit of French accent)

    Scoop instead of grille

    Wedge shape

Off center raised area on hood (seems like I've seen more specific parameters in some articles like "gun sight lineup with the road" or something to that extent)

  8. The engineers saw bearing damage during sustained high rpm dynamometer testing, and determined that the oil was being retained in the lifter valley and rocker covers instead of draining back to the oil pan. No oil in the oil pan does really ugly things at high rpm........ :(

  9. Not sure what you mean by 'timing'.

To improve high rpm oil drainback to the oil pan, the main oil drainback hole from the lifter valley was enlarged (elongated) by about 1/3, and moved more forward of the gear that drives the distributor. The path of the crankcase ventilation air was also changed so that it assisted, rather than fought against, the oil drainback from the lifter area. Also, to prevent the oil from 'flooding' the rocker covers, the oil flow to the rocker shafts was restricted.

Since this doesn't sound like 'timing' to me, I will say FALSE. :)

  10. This is the Avanti Forum. I do not see how something that only applies to a Lark belongs here. (Yes, I know that there were standard shift Avantis, but that is not what the question was about.)

  11. I'll say TRUE. According to Andy G., the R5 had a 2 quart dry sump oiling system with a cooler for each supercharger. Does this count, especially since you did not designate whether you were referring to the engine lube system or the supercharger lube system? :)
