Just guessing, but may have rolled back to previous version. Current version of vBulletin is 6.1.5. SDC version is now 5.7.5.

SDC forums is back!

IIRC, the SDC forums uses vBulletin. There was a major update released recently. I don't know if it self or cloud hosted. My guess is cloud as it is more expensive to self host and maintain a bank of servers. Ed, seems like you have quite a beef with the current SDC admin. I am sure Clark is doing the best he can. Do you have any credentials to opine on the technical aspects? FWIW, I have B.S. Electrical Engineering, B.S. Computer Science, and graduate studies in Computer Science and engineering. I have been in the computer business over 50 years with many certifications such a Sun Certified Java Programmer, Oracle Certified Data Base Administrator, Computer Information Security Professional ...

Back to the outage. From what we know, an update was scheduled by however is hosting the forum. This could have gone horribly wrong. It is also possible that the host was "hacked". In any case, more than the SDC forum is affected. The SDC administrator would not have any control over either of those situations. If hacked, the SDC is not high value, so is not the likely target.

I understand your frustration. As an unpaid volunteer, I administer the campground WiFi/Internet system. We have over 200 users. Let there be a slow down, or heaven forbid an outage, and I am the devil incarnate. I should demand that they triple my salary! As an acquaintance of mine that administers a different park said, "I could spell IT, so now I am it.

Do not know the admin's salary, but the median salary nationwide is around $115,000 for IT professionals, according to Glass Door. This seems reasonable. When I retired in 2012, my salary was $120,000 for enterprise architect.

The sway bar bushings are hard to fit even for stock. I do the ones on the frame first, using a jack to get them place. Then the ones on the a frames.

Anyone here having trouble getting onto the SDC Forum?

They did post an outage warning a couple of days ago. If you just hit the main page, https://studebakerdriversclub.com/ you get the following: -
look on page 40 of the parts book. part numbers 1558666 and 1558315. the diagram does not show this explicitly.

your high idle could be caused by a throttle kicker with a vacuum leak. replacing it should help. the way the stock kicker works is that high vacuum in the engine pulls the plunger back. as vacuum drops, like when the engine is about to stall, the plunger goes back out to increase engine rpm.

the smaller line that goes to the tank is the fuel return line. it helps cool the fuel, and, at least in theory, helps with vapor lock.

I have seen B as well. maybe to distinguish 63 vs 64? I have R4551A, sold in Los Angeles.
-
Not sure for Avanti IIs, but check that engine and transmission mounts are in the correct holes. For Studes, there are 2 sets, 1 for LHD and the other for RHD.

How about driveline angles? I had a similar issue with a 64 4spd and it was due to the spacers missing. here is discussion: https://4xshaft.com/blogs/general-tech-info-articles/driveshaft-angles?srsltid=AfmBOor0wf1cMqW-8ZB44Bme-ZMX7e3iMTewwuTZlsJauargt1YjTgVj

I have heard that non-Studebaker Avantis were shimmed higher to remove the rake. The rubber shims are between the frame and body. Maybe not needed on non-Studebaker cars as they sit up higher.
-
Wow Zedman, a lot of shims. I have removed bodies from 3 Stude Avantis and have experienced a lot fewer shims. Basically, the steel shims I have encountered are 1/8" and 1/4". Maybe total of 1/2" inch at cowl. The hogs had at most 1/4". You do not seem to have the rubber shims that insulated the mufflers. They are located just where the exhaust pipes come in at front and where they exit at the rear of the x member.

Hagerty claims their values are based on sales data and automotive expertise. 70% of the sales data is peer to peer, 20% from auctions and 10% from dealers. Like any guide, it is a starting point. Another source is Collector Car Market Review. Their values are generally lower, but their #1 condition is roughly the same as Hagerty's #2.

There are steel shims at the cowl, rear towers, and tubular cross member under the spare tire well (fiberglass to frame) as well as at the outrigger points for the hog troughs and radiator support. The 4 rubber shims on either side of the X member and the rubber shim over the shock mounts are not bolted to the frame. There are also two rubber seals under the seat belt frame mounting points. I just reused the shims that I removed with the exception of the seals under the seat belt mounting points. They are rubber doughnut shaped and attached to a metal plate. I made new ones from a sheet of self adhesive rubber. The rubber goes on the body side. Attaching a Pic of X member before blasting and painting frame.

Wow! Just checked for replacement Sumitomo cylinders. They are running over $250 each from parts geek. Over $1,000 for 4. Sleeving your existing cylinders or purchasing the Cobalt replacement seems to be a good idea.

On an Avanti, the body to frame shims are steel. The only rubber ones are just over each muffler on either side of the X member. There should be 4 rubber shims. I am guessing that was to keep the floor pan away from the hot exhaust. I had the body on a rotisserie. I cleaned off the old undercoat and resprayed it with 3M rubberized undercoat.undercoating.

Why not use Hagerty's valuation tool as a guide?
