  2. IIRC, when I installed Turner's kit, the instructions said to grind off the high spot on the GM calipers.
  3. I bought my Turners a few years ago, might be the GM version. Don’t want to tie up a lift if my Magnums won’t fit. Mike
  4. Yesterday
  5. There are two different Turner front disc brake kits: 1) the older kit with GM calipers, and 2) the newer kit with Chrysler minivan calipers. Clearance issues would be different between the two. -Dwight
  6. I am using Cobalt calipers and pads. These are reengineered Girling/ Dunlop type new parts, that were intended for the Jaguar XKE etc. market. They fit with no modification other than removal of the separator piece under the pads in the caliper bracket. there are no clearance problems with the stock steel wheels that came on my "69 as the dimensions are the same. .
  7. My conclusion was that two of the four 500s on my Avanti had slightly different offsets and came from different construction lots. Avanti Motors would simply order 15"x6" Magnum 500s which were duly shipped to them and could have come from various production lots. Since they fit the stock Bendix brakes there was no issues to be concerned about or even know about. If I remember correctly...the tech who installed the Turner kit on my car said it was about a 3/8" difference in offset...enough to cause the scraping between the caliper and the rim. I had two solutions...they could grind the high spot on the calipers or...what I did do...keep the offending rims on the rear of the car and two that didn't scrape on the front. At the time it was about forty years past any warranty concern. More modern sport rims are likely far more able to fit without issue as they would have been designed with clearances for more modern calipers. But one never knows until a test fit is done.
  8. Yes… but let me double check it this weekend.
  9. Are you willing to sell the complete heater housing, mfg?
  10. I have Turners on one of my Avantis and it needs spacers on front stock wheels in order to clear calipers. I cant speak for magnums, the clearance issue is one thing I dislike about the Turner set up.
  11. In past posts, Gunslinger told us that two of his Magnum 500 wheels had clearance issues with his newly installed Turner disc brakes. The other two wheels fit over the brakes fine. I’m wondering if there might be any difference on factory installed Magnums vs. wheels purchased separately. According to Bob Johnstone’s registry, my car was originally equipped with wire wheels but now wears a set of Magnums with center caps that say “Magnum 500”. Any theories as to whether factory installed wheels vs. aftermarket fit different, or is it basically a crap shoot? Mike

    Nice Try But..?

Thank you!… Great info.. for my own Avanti, I ended up renewing and re- installing the original power steering system… which is still working fine.
  13. I had the same problem when I changed from factory wheels and tires to real knock offs. I decided to make electric power steering for my car. Here`s how I did it. I hope this helps. https://studebaker-info.org/Tech/Psteer/EPS/EPSSA/EPSSA.pdf

  15. That was up for sale last August also...
  16. Apparently, If Copart doesn't get what they want they send the auction into overtime (looks like 2 extra days). I hope they don't want too much or this Avanti won't get restored. --Dwight

  22. I know what I’d suggest to the SDC board of directors!!
  23. California Pony Cars-I just read right through it. . .sorry-E
  24. Nice car, great history, I bought her sister-with the work that has been done, you cannot buy another for this money in this condition.
  25. The SDC board meets this weekend and will address moving servers for future strength to the site.
  26. I've seen announcements over the past week that phone users were seeing it, but today is the first it's been back online to me
  27. As an experiment several years ago, I removed the power steering system from my ‘63 Avanti (leaving the 16-1 power steering box in place). This basically would be the same as if the car had been ordered with ‘quick ratio’ steering… The front suspension was in good shape & well greased… I was running 20575R-15 radial tires all around at 30 psi…. BAD IDEA!!……My Avanti steered like a truck at low speeds…. (No offense you truck owners out there!!)

    Stude V8 Swap?

California 1975 and older is still exempt from smog, the Leno law would have changed that to cars being 35 years or older being exempt. Once upon a time it was twentyfive years or older were exempt. Most cars 2000 and newer its only a visual inspection with motor running but no sniffer in the tail pipe.
