  2. Very crafty!
  3. The factory build sheet, available at Nostalgic Motors, will contain both the internal RQB car number… and the VIN number needed to register your 1975 Avanti….(if there is one?) I don’t believe the now common seventeen digit VIN number came into play until 1981.

    RQB #

The internal car number, used at Avanti Motors during the build, began with ‘RQB’ for the 1985 model year Avantis… Not ‘AAV’…… Mr. Johnstone may have used both the ‘AAV’ and the ‘RQB’ prefixes for ‘85’s in his roster, but the Avanti factory didn’t ! Just want to avoid future confusion here.

  6. Hi All, I purchased RQB2273 back last summer and I received a Bill of Sale only,,,,, In S.C. you must have the "12DIGIT" VIN to fill out the proper paperwork for the DMV to proceed... Can anyone out there tell me where I can get the "12 DIGIT" VIM number? bb
  7. Actually Bob's website mentions that both prefixes were used, but the sequence numbers that he has is correct, so it's whatever is on the Avanti VIN plate that counts
  8. It shows this:
  9. I imagine every Avanti out there has this problem as both of mine have warped defroster ducts. My solution was to take a piece of 1/8" aluminum ( old road sign) cut strips 3/8" wide and mill 1/4" slots to make wedge to hold opening open. Hope you find this helpful.

No Brooks…. You are the proud owner of RQB-4152!

I know that my Avanti (RQB4234) is listed on the Johnstone website… and it may say AAV there, (haven’t looked at that in awhile) However, I’m simply stating what the Avanti factory placed on the car itself….RQB. In my opinion, the ‘AAV’ prefix started with the 1987 model year Avantis (major change to Chevrolet frame) Of course, there were no 1986 model year Avantis!

Sorry, but I must disagree with you here… I presently own a 1985 Avanti… and the number stamped into the stainless steel factory plate mounted on the left ‘A’ pillar is….RQB 4234.
  13. RQB numbers were not used in 1985. The correct number is AAV-4252 and is shown on Bob Johnstone's website as being owned by Jack White of Charlotte, NC as of 5/2015. You can contact him with a current photo and your information to update his registry: avanti5011@gmail.com

  15. Hi, I have used now 4 years this. Still strong and very similar to original one. You can use Willard sticker instead of CAT. Studebaker Int. sells the sticker. https://parts.cat.com/en/catcorp/11R-2250
  16. This is the gist of what I plan to lurk beneath the body. Never mind the factory blueprint measurements as some of those shall be changing.
  17. There has to be a solution. New car dealers always try and push those extra packages before you get to the payment guy.. They definitely have something for the windshield that cuts down on the UV and lessens impact/chip of a stone and reduces the headlight glare...

Congrats!… I also own one of the rare ‘85’s…. However, I think that if your Avanti still had its internal serial number stainless steel plate on the ‘A’ pillar it would read…RQB 4152 (Not AAV)
  19. thanks!
  20. OK, i AM THE PROUD OWNER OF AAV-4152......bb

  22. Hi Brooks- The Tee is meant to be a fuel tank drain but it gets pretty negative reviews on that subject. I think it is an NPT pipe plug 1/4" ... Common NPT Pipe Plug Sizes: 1/8" NPT: The nominal size is 1/8 inch, but the actual outer diameter of the threads is approximately 0.405 inches. 1/4" NPT: The nominal size is 1/4 inch, with an outer diameter around 0.540 inches.
  23. Geeze I wish I could buy em for barely twelve bucks each - here 'down under' I was pleased to buy a pair for &95 incl post.
  24. Gunslinger, thank You Sir....BB
  25. There is likely a RQ number used internally by Avanti Motors. Probably the best way to get is to order a build sheet from Nostalgic Motors…that would have any internal accounting number on it.
  26. Hello all, I s there a RQB # for a 1985 coupe VIN # 12AAV1238F1004152?
  27. hey Bill, Thanks again for the lenses
  28. Thanks to all ..... very kind
  29. Thank you. Ordered the Anchor 2267. Because the new engine is on the stand, may as well replace the mounts. Looking forward to putting this puzzle back together.
