mfg Posted November 27, 2018 Report Posted November 27, 2018 What issue (involving some of the '84-'85 Blake Avantis) makes changing the windshield a very difficult and expensive task?... (Not referring to cost of new windshield!)

(Not referring to cost of new windshield!) The cars were repainted with the windshield in place, so the paint is likely to be damaged upon replacing the windshield.

That's a good thought...but really not the issue. HINT.... Good possibility of damaging some rather expensive parts due to this situation!!......... (parts that normally would not be damaged)
Stacey Posted November 29, 2018 Report Posted November 29, 2018 It is somewhat stuck to the headliner material.

lschuc Posted November 29, 2018 Report Posted November 29, 2018 I think the problem was that the a-pillar stainless moldings were glued with some kind of urethane to the windshield posts/a-pillars and glass and could not be easily separated without damaging the a-pillar moldings.

Yep!...Lew 'nailed' this one!.....Apparently, assembly technicians got a bit too liberal with the urethane on a few of Steve Blake's later Avantis........A few owners have reported windshield installers ruining the L & R stainless reveal mouldings while attempting to remove them to facilitate a windshield change!
