Stormy
Inside of the console on Avanti R1 4042 , on the front wall of the console box is a toggle switch that possibly looks original. Do you know what that switch could be for ? Thanks, Daryl

Thanks, Daryl Nope, I think a prior owner added that switch to be used as an ignition "kill switch", etc.
Stormy
mfg, thanks. Can you tell me "why" someone would need to have an ignition kill switch ? Lots of new stuff for me in the Avanti world. Daryl

Daryl Back in the day ignition kill switches were a very common (and inexpensive ) anti theft device.......Many 'unauthorized' folks used to like to take Studebaker Avantis for 'rides'! Gunslinger
Try throwing the switch and see if the car will start. That will verify whether it's a kill switch. If not, follow the wiring and see where it goes.

Stormy
Thanks for all of the suggestions. I just got back from a hunting trip, not in the Avanti, and took it out for a few minutes. It is a "kill" switch which does what it was designed for. Another toggle switch under the dash "kills" the electric windows. First I have seen of either. Daryl
