Prior to 1983, so I will just guess 1982 and 1983.

don't know the answer but my '63 was retrofitted with air by newman and altman in 1975/6, (it was there a year) and has rectangular air vents.

My '70 had rectangular a/c vents so it was no later than the 1970 model year.  Avanti Motors began using what they referred to as the "Mark IV" a/c system beginning with 1970 Avanti RQA0315 so it's possible that's when the change was made.

As far as the answer to the question I'll say between the 1969-1970 model years.
