Was it still less expensive than an R2 Avanti? The base retail price of a 1963 Hawk was $3095. Add the R2 Super Package at $581.70 and you get $3676.70. The base retail price of a 1963 Avanti was $4445. Keep in mind that this was for an R1, not an R2. All of these prices are plus destination, extra advertising, options, etc. The net is that an Avanti cost much more (percentage wise) than a Hawk (either R1 or R2).
