Blackened Avanti!

Over the years, some Avanti replacement windshields have come with a blackened area about 2" around the windshield's perimeter. the reason for this is/was...........?

1) To match 'blacked out' windshield surround mouldings.

2) To hide defects in edge of glass caused by worn out molds.

3) For a more modern 'euro look', to complement new composite bumpers and rectangular headlamp bulbs.

. initially they were used in the 4 door versions which were urethaned in place. With a "T" molding around the edge. I'd say #1

That makes good sense....but my info indicates another reason!

Hmmm......I'll go out on a limb and say all three are valid reasons for using the 'blacked out' area on the windshield.

Can't dispute that thought......but one reason surpasses the other two!......Any other ideas?
