planning to change the filter and fluid in my '63. after reading what i could find on the net, there seems to be one camp that favors ford type "F" and another that likes dextron lll/ mercon for a somewhat smoother shift. many of these posts were years old and i'm curious if any of the newer fluids now available have found any favor among the studebaker faithful. i'm sure there are many opinions out there; good personal experiences would be most welcome. thanks!

Stock clutches in the automatics were brass frictions, newer rebuilds use the paper lined clutches like all transmission today. Using dex111/mercon may give a smoother shift. Lou Cote

B&M Trick shift (the original, NOT synthetic) works well.

I have used F type in both my 64R2 Avanti and 63 GT Hawk. NAPPA has this in stock as I had purchased a couple of cases

FYI, B&M Trick shift IS a type F. And is good for superchargers too.
