JimM Posted July 28, 2022 Report Posted July 28, 2022 Red dashboard light for parking brake does not function. Found black wire dangling under dash, which might belong on the parking brake switch on the top of the parking brake shaft. Question: how to attach it? Solder on rusted end, or thread into the switch and solder to end of the plunger? Thoughts?
JimM Posted August 28, 2022 Author Report Posted August 28, 2022 Reasonably sure the unattached wire is for the parking brake light switch. Where can I find a replacement? The wire is broken off the crimped end of the switch and can’t be soldered on.
AD Posted August 29, 2022 Report Posted August 29, 2022 If the Avanti parts vendors cannot supply you with a replacement, you can probably adapt a similar switch and make it work. Here's a variety I found at Ace Hardware:
Avanti83 Posted August 29, 2022 Report Posted August 29, 2022 Most any auto store can supply a universal brake light switch. There are usually the threaded ones I used on mine or a lever action one that can also be used. JimM Posted August 30, 2022 Author Report Posted August 30, 2022 Lots of momentary switches available but all have two connections. Mine seems to have just one. Can I make a dual connector work?

JimM Posted August 31, 2022 Author Report Posted August 31, 2022 Makes sense, since the housing of the existing switch is metal and is in direct contact with the parking brake shaft.
