Dunkin Posted November 22, 2021 Report Posted November 22, 2021 In my hunt for 1963-64, are there new original or reproduction steering wheels available? If not, someplace that rebuilds them? Thanks
64studeavanti Posted November 22, 2021 Report Posted November 22, 2021 (edited) I have never found a source for new or repop steering wheels. That said, good used ones do show up occasionally. The go to guys for rebuilding, Shrock Brothers, retired. They were a little pricey, but did outstanding work. I believe someone has picked up their business. (Maybe Studebaker Reproductions?) If you have a repairable core, you could look at Steering Wheel Bob or Gary's Steering Wheel Restoration. Edited November 22, 2021 by 64studeavanti
Avanti83 Posted November 23, 2021 Report Posted November 23, 2021 The Shrock inventory and molds were purchased by a member of the SDC forum. You might post over there to see if anyone has a good wheel or the member that bought the molds is up and running.
64studeavanti Posted November 23, 2021 Report Posted November 23, 2021 (edited) My understanding is that the inventory of steering wheels was purchased by Stephen Allen. I do not believe there were any Avanti wheels. It appears that Studebaker Reproductions has the molds etc. At least that is how it appears based on the similarity of the web postings to that of the Shrocks. https://studebakerreproductions.com/steering-wheels Edited November 23, 2021 by 64studeavanti
Dunkin Posted January 26, 2022 Author Report Posted January 26, 2022 Still thinking about this, has anyone installed aftermarket steering wheels and if you have, would you have some recommendations? Thanks
64studeavanti Posted January 27, 2022 Report Posted January 27, 2022 There are adapter kits for Grant steering wheels. You may want to investigate.
64studeavanti Posted January 30, 2022 Report Posted January 30, 2022 RockAuto is showing several Grant steering wheels with installation kit for Studebaker Avanti.
