Studebaker made available a new mounting stem that dealers could get from a parts depot.

That would be the use of a small washer on each ball stud and a small amount of heavy grease. It was apparently a stopgap until the new stem was available.

thanks... didn't know that service letter fix.... (I probably would have used duct tape!! :D )

What I did was wrap some teflon tape around the ball stud and tighten the stem up...but I have a non-standard mirror but the teflon tape fix works fine.
